Jacob Hoefer Obituary

Jacob Frederick "Fred" Hoefer, Jr. PICKENS, SC - Jacob Frederick "Fred" Hoefer, Jr., husband of Musette Hoefer, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, April 19, 2014. Born and reared in Roanoke, Virginia on September 8, 1924. Fred was the son of the late Myrtle Mae and Jacob Frederick Hoefer, Sr. Fred served his country in World War II, assigned to the 127 AAA Battalion in the European Theater of Operations. He was a graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute and enjoyed a 32 year career with the Veterans Administration Department of Medicine and Surgery, retiring from the VA Medical Center in Charleston in December 1985. Fred spent his retirement years in rural Pickens County surrounded by his animal family and natural beauty of the area. He was a member of Pickens Presbyterian Church. In addition to his wife, Fred is survived by two children, three stepchildren, their families and one sister, Allene Baker of Atlantic Beach, FL. His children include Katheryn (Kitty) Horn, husband Drew and children, Tyler and Katelyn; and Holly Brown, husband Tom and children Logan and Carly. Stepchildren include Andy Owen, wife Margaret and children, Hank, Jesse and Cody; Dena James, husband Buck and children, George and Alston; and Robert Owen and significant other, Shela Slaton. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Dillard Funeral Home in Pickens. A memorial service will be held at later date with private burial in Evergreen Cemetery in Roanoke, VA. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to Pickens Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 834 Pickens, SC 29671. In memory of Fred's love of animals, please help to make life better for animals in need. The family wishes to thank Pickens Presbyterian Church Family, Guardian Home Care, Interim Hospice and Peggy and Jimmy Cain for their love and care provided to Mr. Hoefer.
