I miss jack so very much. We both like eating off a real plate and drinking from a glass. We miss hangingout and dancing. When Jack made his ascension he took a great part of the heart of our class with him. The saving grace is as we evoke or invoke his name he lives forever in our hearts

Jack was my best friend in the army (1968-1969).. We lost touch some years ago, but I aways held him as precious in my heart. He was a rascal and a sage. He moved with grace and had a killer smile. I always thought I would see him again. Rest in peace my old friend.

"Dat Jack!"

Oreo-dipped, flowing gray hair, well-coiffed, and debonair

Made the ladies swoon, a scholar, and "devil may care"

Jack Canalas Blake: known to friends, family and admirers simply, in the Charleston vernacular as, "Dat Jack!"

Cooler than "The Mack," "Superfly," and "John Shaft" combined, "Dat Jack" turned heads

Effortlessly rocked a full-length fur coat and leather pants in Harlem, or by wearing the sharpest double-breasted suit to church or work, he was the talk of the town and was known only to shop the finest men's clothing stores wherever he went...

In short, he put the "G" in "GQ;" he was the epitome of that Blake-Foster swag!

"Dat Jack" was a proud man, proud of his family and proud of where he came from: Charleston, South Carolina. With Southern charm, Northern sophistication, and that infamous/beautiful Blake-Foster arrogance, he would arrive "fashionably late" to events; events didn't start 'til he walked in! He wasn't conceited; he was "just convinced!"

But he was more than a pretty face
He was a man of faith
He knew from where his strength came, that Jesus was the light of his life and that "God was good ALL the time!"
It wasn't rare to see "Dat Jack" on his knees in prayer or raising his hands in worship!

He was an intellectual, as well--
earning degrees from his beloved North Carolina A&T and Fordham University
"Dat Jack" could talk to you about anything, from social issues to politics. He spoke with authority, he spoke his mind, and "wasn't afraid to call a spade a spade!" "Dat Jack" wasn't for the faint of heart!

In sum, mere words couldn't describe "Dat Jack:" a fashionista, a man of faith, an intellectual, a loving family man... To me, he was my beloved uncle, an extra father... and he will be sorely and deeply missed--for his love, his guidance, and generosity! I LOVE YOU, UNCLE JACK!

We shared so much my dear friend Jack, our neighborhood, a very genuine friendship, and of course our Hail Dear Old Burke School; and the greatest times of all were our class reunions, get togethers parties and lets not forget our almost all night class meetings and spending some nights. fun fun fun, most of all love love love. I will choose not to say I will miss you, for you will live forever in my heart and mind. Yes, you have shed that earthly flesh of yours Jack, one I'd love to see again, but your strife is over and as you travel on now as a Spiritual Being, you live with us forever. Jesus said, Spirit Never Dies. Your live as we live in memories, in our thoughts, when we speak of you, you live. We can speak to you out loud or in the silents of our hearts; You Jack, will forever be a true BURKE BULLDOG. I am forever grateful for you being apart of my life story, the years of love and friendship and the laughter and Jackson teaching you/us the latest dance, and our telling Miss Alma on him on our many trips.

I release you my friend to the heavens, to your HIGHEST GOOD in the ETHERS as you are now FREE FREE FREE.

My condolences to you Jack's family. What a blessing to have had such a enjoyable soul to share in your life story. He is a prefect being, a great child of God, who have some blemishes as man sees it and a few mistakes as man wouldn't want it, but he and us are perfectly made as a child of God. He will rest, then move freely to his next assignment as a Spiritual Being. Blessing you for caring for him and making him comfortable until he transitioned.
God's Blessings be upon Jack C. Blake soul.
