Irving Lipsky Obituary

Irving Lipsky ATLANTA, GA - Irving Lipsky (101) of Atlanta, GA, formerly of Charleston, SC, died on November 14, 2021. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Solarsh Lipsky; his parents, Ida and Abraham Lipsky; his sister, Lila Feintuck; and his son-in-law, Steven E. Marcus. Irving was born in Brooklyn, New York, on October 6, 1920. Irving graduated High School at age 16, and then took some college accounting courses. At age 17, he met Helen and they married in December 1941. He served in the Army after Pearl Harbor, teaching instrument flying. Irving then began working and traveling for Kaybee Stores, and was transferred to Charleston to manage their King Street Store. In 1962, Irving opened his own clothing store, People's Clothing Store, on King Street and was known as Mr. Peoples by everyone. He worked there until he retired at age 75. Irving began volunteer work with the Sherman House, the Charleston Exchange Club, Synagogue Emanu-el, the Jewish Community Center, the Charleston Aquarium, Roper St. Francis Hospital and Trident Literacy. He acted, sang, and danced in many American Cancer Society shows, and he taught a course in Yiddish. He received the Order of the Palmetto from the Governor of SC for his extensive volunteer work. Irving and Helen volunteered in Israel and were honored by Israel Bonds in Charleston. He lived in Charleston for 58 years before moving to the Piedmont in Atlanta. Irving called Bingo weekly for all the residents. Irv and Helen were married for 77 years. He is survived by three daughters: Arlene (Steven OBM) Marcus, Linda (Mel) Wyland, Ina (Harold) Enoch; six grandchildren: Myra, Seth (Peggy), Jill, Amy, Jordan, Ryan (Amanda); and four great grandchildren: Michael, Ari, Molly and Annie. The family would like to thank his wonderful caregivers who were with him for two years, and the Weinstein Hospice for their support and guidance through this difficult time. The Funeral Service will be graveside and by Zoom on November 17, at 10:30am at Arlington Cemetery.
