Inez Hulbert Obituary

Inez Nell Hulbert CHARLESTON - Inez Nell Hulbert, aged 97, of Charleston, SC, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday evening, August 2, 2017. Inez was born in Charleston on December 21, 1919, to Samuel Roy Hulbert, Sr. and Helen Marie Nell Hulbert. Inez is survived by her brother, Samuel Roy Hulbert, Jr. (Mary); nieces and nephew, Cheryl T. Tolley (James), Walter H. Smalls III, Carol T. Greene (Gregory), and Tracie L. Tibbs; grandniece and grandnephews, Jessica Tolley McLendon (Harold), James H. Tolley, III and Allen M. Greene and great grandniece, Ella Marie McLendon. Inez was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Doris H. Smalls (Walter H. Smalls, Jr.) and Ella H. Tibbs (Allen L. Tibbs). In 1938, Inez graduated from Immaculate Conception High School. After graduation, she continued her education at a local business school. This foundation of education, combined with a strong work ethic enabled her to pursue a nearly four decade career as a cashier and bookkeeper for the local branch of North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance Company. Inez was a lifelong and active member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church. Not only had she been a member of the choir, but she also led the parish Boy Scout troop. Her participation was not limited to these two ministries. Inez was also a member of the altar guild and took great care and pride in preparing the bulletins for church services. Recently, Inez was recognized as the oldest living member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church. Funeral services will be held at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 16 Thomas Street, Charleston, SC, on Wednesday, August 9, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Unity and Friendship Society Cemetery, Cunnington Avenue, Charleston, SC.
