Hubert Hammond Obituary

HAMMOND, JR., Hubert Hubert Charles Hammond, Jr., 78, of Idaho Falls and formerly of Summerville, South Carolina, died Saturday, August 5, 2006, at Idaho Falls Health and Rehabilitation. He was born Sept. 28, 1927, in Vandergrift, Pennsylvania, to Hubert Charles Hammond Sr. and Lydia Ruth Akinson Hammond. He grew up in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, and in 1945 he graduated from South Williamsport High School. In September of 1945, he joined the U.S. Navy where he was an Avionics Technician. On May 27, 1948, he married Janet Marjorie Bradley in Washington D.C.. He was discharged from the Navy in October 1951. Following his Naval career, he worked on various research and development projects. In Pennsylvania, he taught at the Johnstown Vo-Tech school and the Admiral Peary Vo-Tech School. In 1979, he moved to Summerville, South Carolina where he worked and later retired from Alumax Aluminum. Due to his wife's health condition, they moved to New Mexico and later to Yuma, Arizona. She passed away August 15, 1996. In 2000, he moved to Idaho Falls. He was an Evangelical Christian and while living in South Carolina, he and his wife were involved in prison ministry. He is survived by the following: daughter, Susan (John) Cole of St. George, UT; son, Thomas (Cinda) Hammond of Idaho Falls, ID; daughter, Karen (Ron) McCoy of Lilly, PA; daughter, Tina Brooks of Columbus, OH; sons: Bradley (Diane) Hammond and Timothy (Mary Beth) Hammond both of Goose Creek, South Carolina; son, Bryan (Carol) Hammond of Charleston, SC; brother, Sam (Florence) Hammond of Williamsport, PA; brother, Dale (Beverly) Hammond of Duncannon, PA; brother, Paul (Joyce) Hammond of Jersey Shore, PA; sister-in-law, Peggy Hammond of Newport, NC; 22 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Janet; and a brother, John. Memorial services will be held in September at the St. Aloysious Catholic Cemetery in Cresson, PA.. Local arrangements are under the direction of Coltrin Mortuary, 2100 First St., Idaho Falls, 83401.
