Herston Ware Obituary

WARE, Herston PERRY-Herston Leon Ware, Sr., age 89, died Friday, June 1, 2007 at Serenity Gate in Perry Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 3, 2007 at Christ's Sanctified Holy Church in Perry, GA, with burial to follow in the Church cemetery. The Rev. Floyd Hagan and Rev. Phillip Murphy will officiate. The family will meet friends from 7:00 p.m. until 8:45 p.m. on Saturday, June 2, 2007, at Christ's Sanctified Holy Church in Perry, GA. Mr. Ware, husband of Juanita Rodgers Ware, was born in Odenville, Alabama on March 5, 1918 to the late James Monroe Ware and the late Jimmy Shanks Ware of Birmingham, Alabama. He was the husband of Juanita Ware for 68 years. He lived in Birmingham, AL for 23 years, in Norfolk, VA for 26 years, and in Charleston, SC for 26 years. He has resided for the past 14 years in Perry, GA. and was in charge of Beautification for Christ's Sanctified Holy Church Camp Ground. Mr. Ware's first job was as a Mechanic with McWane Pipe Co. in Birmingham, AL for 4 years. Later, he was hired as a First-Class Machinist at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard in Norfolk, VA from 1941 to 1946. He then worked for Colonial Chevrolet for 12 years in Norfolk, VA as Used Car Reconditioning Manager and then promoted to New Car Salesman. He became a Painting Contractor in Norfolk, VA and also Charleston, SC for 32 years. He was a faithful member of Christ's Sanctified Holy Church for 72 years, serving as Sunday School Superintendent and Sunday School Teacher, Chairman of the CSHC Conference in Charleston, SC and as Treasurer of the General Conference of CSHC. In earlier years, their church in Charleston made him and his wife Co-Chaplains. They had a passion for visiting the sick, bereaved, and lonely. Survivors included his wife, Juanita Rodgers Ware of Perry, GA; one son, Herston Leon Ware, Jr. (Joan) of Virginia Beach, VA; one daughter, Emily Ware Martin (Curtis) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; grandchildren, Robert Ware (Jose), David Ware (Susie), Jeffery Ware (Kathy), all of Virginia Beach, VA, Cheryl Chandler Mahaffey (Mike) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, and Marty Chandler (Darleen) of N. Charleston, SC; and great-grandchildren, David Andrew Ware, Ryan Ware, Michael Ware, Collin Ware, Christian Ware, Emma Ware, Chandler Mahaffey, Trace Chandler, Joshua Ware, Matthew Ware, and Tyler Ware. He is also survived by three sisters-in-law and a brother-in-law. He was predeceased by a daughter, Rosalind Jeanette Ware.
