Oh, my. I had the distinct privilege of working with Phelps on quite a few of his projects. He was among the most professional and kindest souls I've ever met. He used to call me his "Polo painter," for the fact I liked wearing nice shirts to paint his vivid reds and golds onto finely sanded walls.
As a designer, he had no equal when it came to seeing how texture and color would bring out the spirit of a room or place. But it was his generous and kind heart that endeared him to me. There were many hard times when if not for Phelps I am sure my family would have suffered. He always found projects for talented people and was thoughtful of everyone.
I was so sad to hear this news. My sincere condolences and prayers go out to his wonderful, talented, and kind wife Theresa, the family, and his friends. The world was a far better place for his having lived in it with all of us. May God keep and bless the gentle souls who walk among us. Till we meet again my old friend.
Always,
Phil

We loved Phelps and have always loved him. We moved to Mt. Pleasant about the same time he did and were so very fortunate to meet him at Southeastern Galleries. Throughout all of these years he has been a wonderful friend who guided us in not only furnishing our home but in many other aspects of our lives. He was always so patient with us, though we were probably his most indecisive clients!! He was one of the kindest, finest people we will ever know. We are filled with sadness to learn of his passing. Theresa and Family:
I was so saddened to learn of the passing of your dear husband, father and brother. Please accept my sincerest sympathy.
As you know, I had the pleasure of coming to know Phelps a number of years ago through the Cannon and Cooper family at Southeastern Galleries. Without hesitation, I can say that I always liked Phelps: he was a most talented designer, a consummate professional at all times, and truly a sincere and good person.
God bless Phelps and God bless you and your family.
Sincerely------Allen Young
