I was Henry´s parish administrator when he served as rector of St. Pauls Episcopal Church in Bennettsville. I have several watercolors in my home received as gifts for everything from birthdays to Mothers Days to Christmases. He will always be remembered as my favorite boss of all time. I will be praying for you, Susan.

My house was filled with Henry's watercolors and they brightened every room they hung in.

I was fortunate enough to take the water color class at the church from Henry. I awakened my love of painting he taught me so much. It was not just a painting class we solved the world´s problems every week. He was kind, sometimes a little critical, he would tell me to stop and leave my painting alone before I turned it into a brown mess. But I loved that class and hearing his stories growing up in Charleston. He loved nature and plein air painting. He loved Edisto. I will cherish him teaching me to paint as it became therapy for me. Thank you Henry I imagine you, jane and Alice Ravanel Huger Smith painting away somewhere on a creek of the low country. My prayers to the family.

I never met Henry in person, but we messaged through the I Love Edisto page, and I so enjoyed his paintings. When I would pass the State Park camera, I would wave to him because I know that he watched it frequently. His absence and posts will be missed, and his talent for seeing the beauty around him will be missed even more. Rest in peace Henry.

I first met Henry when I moved to Edisto permanently in 2004. He welcomed and greeted me as a friend. I admired greatly his artistic, water color talent. He was a man of deep character and integrity. He will be long remembered and deeply missed.

Henry was a man of many talents. We served together in the Navy and he was a very capable naval officer. Another aspect of his life was his huge artistic talent. His watercolor paintings captured so much of Low Country life and times. He is already missed. Fair winds and following seas, Henry... . Joe Gamboa
