Helen Claiborne Cabell Parker Obituary

Helen "Lynn" Parker Charleston - Helen "Lynn" Claiborne Cabell Parker entered into eternal rest September 9, 2015. Lynn is the daughter of Nathaniel Wilson Cabell and Jean Warley Witsell Cabell. She is survived by her devoted husband, Frank Cheatham Parker of Charleston and their 3 children: Braxton Stuart Tucker, Caroline Claiborne Parker DeVos (Richard) and Alice Cheatham Parker. She is survived by her four siblings: Nathaniel Wilson Cabell Jr., Mary Randolph Cabell Prum, John Witsell Cabell, and Thomas Leigh Cabell; and her beloved Aunt and Uncle, Mary Cabell Witsell and John Thomson Witsell. Lynn was best known for her fun sense of humor, her love for animals and her keen sense of safety. She had a penchant for words, puzzles and rhymes, particularly onomatopoeia, which she considered delectable bits best savored in an adventure. She authored a book of children's poetry, Standing On My Head (H.C. Cabell). She cherished her summers on Sullivan's Island, her family trips to Mexico and the NY World's Fair, and 5 o'clock Toddies with her Mother, Grandmother, neighbors and friends. She treasured time spent campaigning with her father and working in his law office where she witnessed firsthand his depth of character, kindness and dedication to those less fortunate. Lynn attended Charleston Day School, Moultrie High, College Prep and the College of Charleston. She was a lifelong member of St. Philips Church, where she proudly earned her 10 year Sunday School pin and sang in the Children's Choir. She was a member of The Huguenot Society, the Carolina Assembly & the Charleston County Republican Party. The majority of Lynn's life was spent devoted to her children, her greatest accomplishment. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The French Huguenot Church, 44 Queen Street, Charleston, SC 29401 or Pet Helpers, 1447 Folly Road, Charleston, SC 29412. The family wishes to extend their appreciation to Lutheran Hospice and Hospice of Charleston. All services were private. Arrangements by James A. McAlister, Inc. (843) 766-1365. Randy, Mister, John and TomTom, I heard about Lynn's passing and wanted to let you know I'm thinking about you during this sad time. Although we haven't been close, your family has always been special to me. Mom (your cousin Lib) was very fond of your mom and dad and y'all. She always tried to get in a visit with the Cabells whenever we were in town. It's so hard to keep the family in touch as our own families grow and our priorities change. I hope to see y'all soon. My sincere condolences at the loss of your sister.

Frank, Tom, John, Nat, and Randy, very sorry to hear about Lynn, your wife and sister, many, many fond memories of her, and all of you, and especially Lynn's sense of humor. Best regards to her children, her most obvious pride and joys.

I was so sorry to hear of Lynn's passing. I did your hair Caroline for your wedding. Your mom was a sweet lady who cared for her family. My thoughts are with you at this time. Beverly Gottschalk

Lynn offered an original glimpse into family life in the early '80s from her bed as a perch from where she read the daily paper and issued instructions for the day.... Her humor was a memorable trait and her love for Frank. I remember her well and am saddened by this news. Warm wishes to her family.

I haven't seen Lynn since we were 10 at CDS, when my family moved to CT, but we have been Facebook friends for a few years. I can see her face very clearly as we friends walked down Church St or Water st...I am hoping to come to Charleston this winter, and was looking forward to reconnecting...my prayers go out for her family and close friends...
