Helen Bryant Obituary

Helen Frances Poole Bryant MT. PLEASANT - After a brief illness, Helen Frances Poole Bryant, wife of Bruce Courtney Bryant of Mt. Pleasant, SC, died on February 26, 2010. The relatives and friends of Helen Bryant are invited to attend her Memorial Service on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at The Palms of Mt. Pleasant (937 Bowman Road) at 10:30 am. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR, MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL. Mrs. Bryant was born January 7, 1922, daughter of Horace Stephens Poole and Helen Walpole Poole. Bruce and Helen were married in 1943 prior to Bruce's commissioning in the US Navy for service in WW II. She attended Iowa State College and graduated from the University of Dubuque. Helen taught school for four years, sold real estate for two years, and was a devoted wife and mother. In 1983, after living in Rockford, IL for twenty years, Bruce and Helen moved to Blacksburg, VA. In 1994 they moved to Charleston, SC to be near their daughter, Susan. Helen was a member of The Rebecca Motte Chapter of the DAR, and was active in the Episcopal Church as a Vestry member, the Altar Guild and ECW. She volunteered as a docent at Smithfield Plantation in Virginia and was also instrumental in organizing Operation Christmas Child and many other community service projects. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Bruce Courtney Bryant; three daughters: Carol Courtney Bryant Cremers and her husband, Gerald of Roseville, CA; Susan Langworthy Bryant Price and her husband, Donald of Mt. Pleasant, SC; and Kathryn Poole Bryant Wendling and her husband, Michael of Dallas, TX; six grandchildren: Courtney Jane Cremers Banks, Grant Bryant Cremers, Barton Theodore Cremers, Julia Langworthy Price, Bryant Michael Wendling and Kendall Christine Wendling; and six great-grandchildren: Miles Poole Banks, Amanda Jane Banks, Ian Ashley Cremers, Henry Joseph Cremers, Adeline Rose Cremers, and Gweneth Grace Cremers. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Walpole Bryant. The family requests that memorials be made to The Episcopal Relief Development Fund, PO Box 7058, Merrifield, VA 22116 and/or the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), 1776 D Street, NW, Washington, DC 20006-5303.
