James Gethers, Jr
Newport, NC - James Gethers, Jr., of Newport, North Carolina, peacefully entered into eternal rest on February 8, 2026 surrounded by the love of his family. A devoted servant of the Lord, faithful minister, loving husband, father, and grandfather, he lived a life that reflected Christ in word and deed. His faith wasn't just something he spoke about-it was something he lived every day. You could see God in the way he loved, the way he served, and the way he stood firm through life's trials. He trusted God completely, even when life was hard.
He was born to the late James R. Gethers and Bertha L. Smalls Gethers on August 25,1955 in Adam's Run, South Carolina.
He is survived by Renee Ashe Gethers , his loving wife; children Syrivia Gethers, James B. Gethers (Shernette) and Evony Grant (Adrian) and 9 grandchildren; and a host of family, church family, and dear friends who will cherish his memory.
Though we grieve, we do not grieve as those without hope, for we stand on the promise of Scripture:
"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith." - 2 Timothy 4:7

My condolences to the Gethers family. I worked with James for about 12 years in building 83 at FRC East. He was highly professional in his work and just wonderful as a friend and colleague. Can't say enough good about his willingness to help anyone at any time. He was always smiling and ready to laugh. He will be missed. My apologies to the family for not attending his service, unfortunately I did not find out in time. God bless you all.
