Harold Eugene Dyson, Sr. CONWAY, SC - Harold Eugene Dyson, Sr., 94, "Blackjack", passed away Saturday, April 16, 2016 in Conway, SC. Gene was born in Dillon County on February 26, 1922 to Rufus Marion and Beulah King Dyson. He was their only son, and brother to Marian Dyson Cardenas, Maxine Dyson Walker, Peggy Dyson Vickman, Selma Dyson Cooper, and Ruth Dyson Mills. He had a half-brother, Thomas Edison Dyson. Gene was a proud member of the Greatest Generation, having served his country bravely in the US Army during WWII. He married Robbie Lee Bordeaux ("Miss Bobbie") after returning from service. He and Miss Bobbie were the parents of four children, Robbie Jean "Susie" Dyson, Harold Eugene Dyson, Jr., Phillip Wayne Dyson, and Sharon Kay Dyson Gasque. Both Bobbie and Susie preceded him in death, along with a granddaughter, Amanda Gasque Tyler Cook. His love of family, bluegrass music, square dancing, and fishing and hunting was what he truly enjoyed. His faith and love of God sustained him. His wife, Bobbie, joked that when she died, not to bury her on a Saturday so Gene would be sure to attend the funeral. That's because nearly every Saturday he could be found at the Gunter Island Hunting Club hunting and fishing with the other members of the "Old Farts Club". She got her wish. Gene was a Shriner of the 32nd degree. He and Miss Bobbie made several trips with the Shriner conventions across the southeast and was with the Shriner Military Escort Brigade. He is survived by his children, Harold (Connie), Phil (Kay), and Sharon, as well as his sister, Selma. Also surviving him are his beloved grandchildren, Scott (Nikki), Russell, Phillip, Abbey, Jason (Gabby), Kristin, Andi (Elijah), and Mark; also nine great-granchildren, Daniel, Brenna, Anthony G, Lane, Peyton, Cole, Grant, Anthony P., and Carmandi; and many nieces and nephews. In the last few years of his life, his faithful companion was his cat, Hoochie. Heartfelt thanks go to the staff on Hummingbird Lane at Kingston Nursing Home who became like family to him and he to them...love always from Grandpa. And a special thanks to Lower Cape Fear Hospice Mercy Care. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 PM, Wednesday, at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel, with Rev. Jimmy Bell officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM on Tuesday at the funeral home.
