Gregory Elam Obituary

Gregory Lynden Elam SUMMERVILLE - Gregory Lynden Elam of Summerville, aged 67, died at his home just after 11am on October 6, 2015. His wife, daughters, family, and loved friends surrounded him in love as he left his physical body. Greg was incredibly strong and stubborn, and had persevered against small cell lung cancer for almost three years before it took his last breath from him. Greg did not want a graveside service or funeral, but instead requested that his friends and family throw a party to celebrate his life with joy. We will do so. He wants his ashes spread throughout his garden. Greg and his wife Ve;ronique collaborated to build and run the Flowertown Bed and Breakfast and its extensive gardens, their joint project for the last 20 years. Greg particularly loved cultivating his bonsai trees, some of which he tended for over 40 years. As a young man, Greg piloted C-141s as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force. Gregory's survivors include his wife Ve;ronique Chaffaud Elam; his mother Mary Gale Elam of Charleston; his mother-in-law Jeanine Chaffaud of Poitiers, France; his older daughter Keri Larson and her husband Tommy of Baton Rouge, LA; his younger daughter Alexandra Feldmann and her husband J.D. of Norfolk, VA; his grandson Soren Finn Larson of Baton Rouge; his brother Mick Elam and his wife Cindy from Charleston; his brother Mat Elam and his wife Megan from Hollywood; and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. Greg's father, Frank Elam, and brother, Gerald Hendrick, predeceased him. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Greg's honor to Sante sans Frontire (Health without Borders), an organization that helps builds schools for displaced children in Nepal. www.santesansfrontiere.fr/. Sorry to learn of Gregg leaving us too soon. I flew with Gregg often during our association at Charleston AFB aboard the C-141 Starlifter. His father also visited our home in Ridgeville many years ago. May the days following his departure be comforted by memories of a life lived to the fullest. May God rest his soul.

Greg and I go back to high school in Hanahan. He was a good friend and I will miss him. I am sure God opened his arms and welcomed him to Heaven. May God bless his family and relatives.
