George Altine Obituary

George Altine CHARLESTON - George Altine, 99, of Charleston, SC, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, June 06, 2023. The relatives and friends of Mr. George Altine are invited to attend his Funeral Service 1:00 PM Monday, June 12, 2023 at the Fort Johnson Baptist Church Family Life Center, 1473 Camp Road, Charleston. Interment will follow at Bethany Cemetery, Cunnington Avenue, Charleston. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. George was born February 10, 1924 in Moncks Corner, SC. He was a World War II Navy veteran and was dedicated to his country. He was a wonderful son, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved all of his family and never met a stranger. George was full of life, loved to fish, hunt, garden, and was a member of Fort Johnson Baptist Church. George is survived by his loving companion, Jean Smith; daughter, Diane Simmons (James, Jr.); daughter-in-law, Sharon Poole (Eric); grandson, Jay Simmons; granddaughters, Kati Knowland (Josh), Ashley Broderick (Pat), Jessica Evans (Josh), Maggie McGuirt (Baxter), Whitney Mersereau (Will), Faith Poole, and Hope Poole; 14 great-grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Janie Sims. George was preceded in death by his wife, Bertha W. Altine; son, Robert M. Altine and grandson, Jason R. Altine. George will be remembered as a loving family man, a proud Navy veteran and a passionate outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and gardening. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Fort Johnson Baptist Church Forward from the Fire Fund, 1473 Camp Rd., James Island, SC 29412. Arrangements by James A.
