Frank Grubb Obituary

Frank Lander Grubb, Jr. LAURENS, SC - Frank Lander Grubb Jr., age 74, passed away to be with his Lord and Savior on September 24, 2011 at his home in Laurens, SC as a result of congestive heart failure. Frank was born on April 1, 1937 in Abbeville, SC and was the son of the late Frank Lander Grubb Sr. and Ruth Blanchett Grubb. His family moved to Charleston, SC where Frank attended Porter-Gaud prep school then graduated from The Citadel in Business Administration with the class of 1958. His early years were spent serving his country as a Captain in the United States Army with a tour of service in Korea and a second as a communications officer in Vietnam. As a teenager, Frank had worked in the soda shop of the King Street Pharmacy in Charleston which sparked a life long interest that would lead to a BS in Pharmacy from the University of South Carolina in 1972, and a second career as a pharmacist for Revco which later merged into CVS Pharmacy. His affable personality and exemplary skill as a druggist made Frank an integral part of the fabric of South Carolina communities in Columbia, West Columbia, Newberry, Gaffney, and Clinton for the next 30 years. His faith, discipline, generosity, and love for family leave an indelible mark for those whom were the fortunate recipients of his lifelong gifts. Surviving are his: wife of 12 years Betty Edwards Grubb of Laurens, SC, former wife of 28 years Sylvia Brooks Grubb of West Columbia, SC, sister Valerie Grubb McMillan of Summerville, SC, son Frank Lander Grubb III of Duluth, GA, daughter Mary Elizabeth Grubb of Kihei, HI, grandson, Dillan Emory Riter of San Francisco, CA, and granddaughters, Allison Quinne Grubb and Mary Lucille Grubb of Duluth, GA. He also leaves step children Lisa Mann of Waterloo, SC, Wyman Mann of Waterloo, SC and Step-Grandchildren Elanna Mann of Laurens, SC and Dallion Mann of Waterloo, SC. Besides his parents, Frank is predeceased by his brother James Robert Grubb III (September 28, 1983), and sister Jennifer Grubb Watson (March 22, 2005). There will be a memorial service at 11 am, Friday, September 30, 2011, at The Kennedy Mortuary Chapel, 606 West Main Street, Laurens, SC 29360, 864-984-4535. My family lived next door to Frank and his family for many years in West Columbia - I have fond, treasured memories of those days. I was a teenager at the time and Frank always seemed to take the time to stop and talk with me for just a moment to find out the latest happenings in my life. Frank and Sylvia just happened to be outside as my boyfriend and I were going into the house to tell my parents that we were engaged - I told them my news and showed off my ring - they were the 1st to hear my big news. Some things and some people we never forget and Frank is one of them. May God's loving arms surround each of you. Vickie Shaw Barron

I always looked up to my older and wiser cousin, who listen to me as an equal as if He was a father, instead of a cousin. He was a good adviser, and listener and I will always remember him that way.

I worked for Mr. Grubb through high school and college many years ago at Revco in Woodberry Plaza. He was a great man and I learned a lot from him about work ethic and life. He was a great man and I still have good memories of working with him. I'm so sorry for your loss!
