Frank Eaton Obituary

Frank E. Eaton CHARLESTON - Frank E. Eaton, 85, of Charleston, husband of Elizabeth (Betty) Bicaise Eaton, passed away Thursday, August 11, 2022. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Monday, August 15, 2022 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 1695 Wallenberg Blvd., Charleston. The Rite of Committal will follow at Live Oak Memorial Gardens, 3093 Ashley River Road. The family will receive friends between 4:00 and 6:00 PM Sunday at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway, Charleston. The Rosary will be recited at 5:30 PM Sunday. Frank is the son of the late John Joseph Eaton and Camiell Stellings Eaton. He was born on December 12, 1936 in North Charleston, SC. Throughout his childhood he grew up on Chicora Playgrounds. He remained a proud Charlestonian his entire life. He was a devout Catholic and attended Catholic schools for 12 years, graduating from Bishop England High School in 1955. He loved sports and played basketball and football throughout high school and was awarded the Thomas McCann MVP award for Charleston County in 1954. He continued his love of sports by umpiring and refereeing high school football and basketball as well as coaching at St. Andrews Parks and Playground. Frank worked at Soil Consultants for 58 years. He retired at age 78 as Vice President of Field Operations. He was a founding member of St Joseph's Catholic Church and served as president of St. Joseph Catholic men's club. He also served as President of the Downtown Athletic Club and South Carolina Irish Historical Society. He was a member of the Palmetto Touchdown Club. He and his wife, Betty, were season ticket holders for the College of Charleston Basketball Team and a member of the Cougar Club for over 40 years. He served on the Cougar Club board. Frank was an avid fisherman and hunter for his entire life. He also enjoyed softball, golf and racquetball. He was a longtime fan of the New York Yankees, College of Charleston Cougars and the Clemson Tigers. He was a friend to many and loved his family. Frank is survived by his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth (Betty), children, Frank E. Eaton, Jr., Elizabeth Eaton Griffith and Eugene Paul Eaton, and his granddaughter, Shannon Eberhardt (Owen), sister, Virginia Eaton Meyer (Timothy), sister-in-law, Rose Anne Mitchell (Edward) and brother-in-law, Edward Bicaise, as well as nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents and his brother, John Joseph Eaton, Jr. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph's Catholic Church Organ Fund, 1695 Raoul Wallenberg Blvd. Charleston, SC 29407. Frankie & I were in the 1st grade together at Chicora Grade School in 1942 & I have my first grade class picture with Frankie & I sitting side by side. He was my closest friend, I last saw him when playing Raquetball in the 1980s. I think about him often. Rest In Peace My Friend Frankie
