Francis Leone Sumler Mathis VARNVILLE, SC - Mrs. Frances Leone Sumler Mathis, 77, of Henderson Road near Varnville, SC died early Wednesday morning May 22, 2013 at the Hampton Regional Medical Center. Born December 10, 1935 in Leesville, LA she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin Sumler and Rosa Merritt Sumler. Mrs. Mathis was a Nurse with the Hampton Regional Medical Center for 37 years, and later worked at the Estill Nursing Home. She was a member of the Spirit of Life Ministries Church in Varnville, SC. Surviving besides her husband of the home Melvin Henry Mathis, is one son, Jerome Stone and wife Chris of Varnville, two daughters: Cindy Swink and Fiance Gary Cox of Lenoir, NC, Lynne Avant and husband Glynis of Varnville. There are four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday May 24, 2013 at 11 A.M. in the Spirit of Life Ministries Church in Varnville conducted by the Rev. David Schaffer and directed by Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Deep Branch Baptist Church Cemetery. The casket will be placed in the church at 10 A.M. prior to the service.
