Frances Fahey Obituary

Frances Elizabeth Fahey CHARLESTON - Frances Elizabeth Fahey, the youngest child of Nicholas and Elizabeth Seymour, died peacefully at her residence in Charleston, South Carolina, one week after celebrating her 94th birthdaywith friends and family. Frances spent most of her life in Marlborough, Massachusetts. She married James Eugene Fahey on January 29, 1942 after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, just prior to his deployment with the First Marine Division to Guadalcanal. Together they raised two children, John and Elizabeth. Always ahead of her time, Frances worked all of her adult life, first for the Marlboro Hospital, and later as Water Registrar for the City of Marlborough. Upon retirement from the City, she became a very popular "rent-a-secretary" Kelly Girl. Frances was noted for her cake decorations, dolls, ceramics, and sophisticated sewing and knitting of tailored outfits. An outstanding cook, her home and pool were well known as the hot spot for after-hours fun. Even if sleeping, late night company at the front door would compel Jim to jump into action at the wet bar while Frances whipped up a smorgasbord of food. They both loved company, any time, anybody, and therefore were open 24/7 for family and friends alike. She and Jim could always be found every Friday and Saturday night at her brother Nick's restaurant, the Wildwood Steakhouse. In 1988, Frances and Jim moved to Summerville, then Charleston, South Carolina, to be close to their grandsons. They enjoyed many years of traveling and socializing, adding southern hospitality to their list of accomplishments. After Jim died in 2004, Frances remained independent for many years. She cooked throughout the week so that she could accompany her daughter to work every Wednesday at the VA Hospital to serve coffee and her homemade treats to patients, families, and staff. She was often recognized as "The VA Cookie Lady" throughout Charleston. Frances leaves to cherish her memories her son, Jack of Upton, Mass.; her daughter, Liz of Charleston, South Carolina; her grandson, James (Inmar) Geiger and their sons Charles(CJ) and Robert of Charleston; her grandson, Dale Geiger of King George, Virginia; and her special Southern family, Shawn Olsen (Amy), Amelia, Allison, and Ashton. "Aunt Bobby" also leaves many beloved nieces and nephews who have remained close to her throughout her life. Services will be at the William R. Short and Son Funeral Home, Marlborough, Mass. on Monday, August 24 from 9 - 11 AM. A Requiem Mass will be offered at the Immaculate Conception Church, immediately followed by burial in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery. Her nephew, Gerald Seymour, will host a final farewell at the Wildwood Steakhouse to honor the passing of our last living relative of the WW II generation. The family wishes a heartfelt thanks to the administrative, medical, nursing, recreation, nutrition, housekeeping, and support staff at National Health Care (NHC) of Charleston for the outstanding care and love Francis received throughout her illness. We request that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to: The charity of one's choice, or Checks to Mother Emanuel Hope Fund C/O City of Charleston P.O. Box 304 Charleston, SC 29402.
