Etta Wells Obituary

Etta Marcella Wells NORFOLK, VA - Etta (Mack) Wells, 80, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend passed away, August 28, 2010, at Sentara Leigh Hospital, Norfolk, VA. Etta was born May 15, 1930, in Charleston, SC, the daughter of the late William and Beatrice Mack. She was preceded in death by her former husband, Billy J. Wells. Etta spent her early years as a US Navy wife and was president of the Navy Wives' Club of America for the Portsmouth, NH Navy Yard. She was a Red Cross fundraiser who volunteered time supporting Navy family groups. Etta retired from the US Navy Exchange in Newport, RI and was a lifelong member of the Order of Eastern Stars in both Newport, RI and Charleston, SC. She was a devoted member of Community Baptist Church in Newport, RI. She is survived by a sister, Pearl Snype of Charleston SC and by her daughters, LaVerne Wells-Bowie of Florida and Joquetta Wells of Ohio, her sons LaMont Wells and Neil Wells of Virginia, daughters-in-law Melvine Wells and Angela Wells and six grandchildren. A viewing will be held from 12:00-1:00 p.m., on Friday, September 3, 2010, at the Memorial Funeral Home, 375 Broadway, Newport, RI, followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. Internment will follow at the Newport Memorial Park, in Middletown, RI.
