Dear Sheila, My sister, Patsy, has spoken of you and Ernie so frequently that I felt like an old friend had passed when she told me about Ernie. I am so very sorry for your loss. I spoke with Patsy tonight and she said that you are holding up pretty good and going on with your business. You will think of Ernie every waking minute for a long time but it will be good thoughts of your happy times and you will see him again one day. I am convinced of that! Ernie was a big hearted human being. Some times I would tell him his heart is too big and that was his down fall for business. But, he didn't care. He would give you any thing if he could. He gave me a place to stay when I was off the road for a few days and never asked for a dime of rent. Of course, I would cut the grass or help out at his salvage yard in Summerville. Even when I would try to give him money for rent he would say, "save your money, you might need it for a rainey day."

Ernie loved to laugh and I can remember we used to laugh hard. Back in the day I remember we used to watch Americas Funniest Videos. I thought he would bust an O'ring from laughing so hard. He probably still watched that show... I sill watch it occasionally. I would think of him laughing and that would always made me smile. Erine was quite a character.

The last time I got to see Ernie was last May, 2004 when I was working in Myrtle Beach. My mom and dad who live in Alabama was in Charleston for the Yorktown reunion at that time. My mom had never met my buddy Ernie until we, (Ernie, Shelia, mom and my-self) went to dinner down the road from Ernie's Auto Sales. I never imagined that would be the last time I would see my friend. I got to talk to Ernie twice in February of 2005 when I was looking for a tail lens for my girlfriends car and just calling to shoot the breeze. It never crossed my mind, that would be the last time I would talk to him. I could go on and on with stories of Ernie but some of them should not be made public.

I think God needed Ernie at this point in time and that's why he is not with us today. He's being fitted for a set of wings.

Good-bye for now my good friend, until we meet again.

I want to express my sincere condolences to Ernie's family. Tena and I were remembering all the great times we had years ago with Ernie and decided his laugh is what we will miss the most. He knew every word to every country song and some he would make up his own words (remember Keith Whittley's Don't Close your Eyes). He would "growl" when he sang Conway Twitty songs. He was a great person and we will miss him. Until next time, Ernie we love you. Julie and Tena

I am deeply sadden and hurt by the lost of my brother-in-law Ernie, he was a great guy and a friend. Words cannot say alot about a person, you have to know them, and Ernie, you were a great man. You took execellent care of my sister and her childeren. You achieved so much at a 45, you lived a great life, and had so many friends that loved you and cared so much for you. It hurts me so much to say goodbye, and wonder why this happened to you.Well goodbye my friend, and I will never forget about you and what you did......David, your brother-in-law

My dear Sheila, I know the pain you are going through.I'm so sorry. All I can do is pray that God will get you through this somehow. We don't always know why, but we will understand it better by and by. I'm sorry I can't be there with you but you understand. Denise was real upset. She said, but Mom Sheila is my cousin and I need to be there. I told her you would understand. I love you, I loved Ernie. You will be in my thoughts and prayers always.
