When Duke called me on the telephone to tell me of your passing, I was so sad. But then I thought of the last time I saw you in New York, which was another sad occasion. You came to New York because Anna Mae had passed. I remember you and Bernice sitting next to each other talking to each other before you left New York to return to Charleston. That was the last time that we saw you, but we talked on the telephone throughout the years. I will always have that image in my mind. I thank you for thanking me so many times of the care that I gave to your sister, my mother. Just knowing someone was thinking about me, meant a lot to me. Uncle Ellis, Rest. Dear Mrs. McCray and Jack, I was so sorry to hear about Mr. McCray's passing. As a little girl, I always thought he was a kind man, but as I grew and saw him from time to time, I admired him as a true gentleman and devoted husband. I recall our last conversation at Krystel's wedding. He said, "Cathy take care of yourself and stay away from sugar and salt, those are two of your body's worst enemies." Well, every evening when I have my cup of tea, I think about his words when I want to put in that 4th teaspoon of sugar (I know that's excessive) but at least his words didn't fall on deaf ears. I'm down to three now. Take care and know that you all are in my prayers, and that he may be gone but certainly never forgotten.

I'm truly suffering from a heavy heart at this time, Mr. Ellis McCray is my grandfather, I'm the youngest of his grandchildren from his one and only daughter, My name is Stacey McCray, to Jack my prayers are with you as well as your mother Liz may God continue to watch over you and keep you in his favor. Although he has left us know that we carry his memory in our hearts each and every day and although I have very few memories of him, I do remeber when I would visit on the seldom trips to Charleston and I would sit in the parlor with Ms. Liz and my Grandpa and read them my little poems I would send him and laugh at the pictures I would draw for him and Ms.Liz and those are the memories I hold so dear as a grown women today. So grandpa I love you and enjoy your rest because you truly have been a diligent servent, Stacey
