Ellen Spitz Obituary

Ellen Ann (Dee) Spitz Syracuse, NY - Ellen Ann (Dee) Spitz, 67, of Syracuse, died on Monday, March 12, 2018, at Francis House in Syracuse. She was born on April 23, 1950, in Syracuse, NY. She attended Edwards Elementary School, Jamesville-Dewitt High School, Boston University, Medill Journalism School at Northwestern University. Ellen worked on the Smokey Bear Ad Council with the Department of Interior. She was a photo journalist and did various jobs where she continued to develop her photography skills. She was featured in a book of Woman Photographers by Peter E Palmquist housed at the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library at Yale University. Ellen enjoyed various art endeavors. She was an avid painter, a member of the Everson Museum of Art, and loved music and studied clarinet. Ellen was a very loving and happy person and everyone enjoyed being around her. People who knew her virtually always said she is so sweet and kind. She will be greatly missed. She was predeceased by her father and mother; Bill and Fanny Spitz. Ellen is survived by her brother, Steve, and his wife, Wendy; her niece, Cathy, and her husband, Patrick deVarona; and her great-nieces, Dalit and Ravit deVarona. She has a number of other relatives she truly liked and enjoyed, Mrs. Joan Rubenstein, Ms. Susan Reed and family, Mr and Mrs Robert Rubenstein and family, Mr and Mrs John Decker and family. Services and burial were conducted in Syracuse, New York.
