Eileen Vaughan Obituary

Eileen Vaughan Mt. Pleasant - Eileen McGuire Vaughan entered into eternal rest on Sunday, August 21st. She was born in Brooklyn, NY September 14, 1942 to the late John James McGuire and Agnes Mulleady McGuire. She graduated from Marymount High School in Manhattan. She then graduated magna cum laude from Marymount College in Tarrytown, NY with a degree in History. She was a Member of Phi Beta Kappa. She attended Duke University and later received her Master's in Education from the University of South Carolina in 1971. She married James A. Vaughan, Jr. on June 11, 1966. He predeceased her on April 4, 2006. She is survived by her sons, James A. Vaughan, III (Elizabeth) of Cary, NC and Edward Brandon Vaughan of Quimper, France, grandchildren, James M.S., Charlotte E.C., and Frances T. Vaughan of Cary, a sister, Kathi Green of Lynn, MA and a brother, John J. McGuire of Tracy, CA. She began her career as a high school History and Geography teacher at Dreher High School in Columbia, SC in 1966; she then became Assistant Principal there and later at AC Flora High School. She also spearheaded the gifted and talented program in Richland County. In 1982, she and her family moved to Charleston and she continued her career as Assistant Principal at Wando High School in Mt. Pleasant. While at Wando, she began the evening adult education program, which helped students who would otherwise drop out of school obtain their GEDs. She retired after 32 years working for public education in South Carolina. Eileen loved to read and travel to Europe at every opportunity available, especially to her second home in France. Funeral services will be graveside, at noon on Saturday, August 27th at All Saints Church Pawleys Island, 3560 Kings River Road, Pawleys Island. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mt. Pleasant Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Roper Hospice through Roper St. Francis Foundation, 125 Doughty Street, Suite 790, Charleston, SC Charleston 29403 or the charity of your choice. I have so many good memories of Eileen from our time at Wando High School (from the daily grind to Adult Education to conferences and travels). Condolences and love to James and Brandon. RIP Eileen.
