Mark Walton Hocutt
Charleston - We are saddened to announce the unexpected death of Mark Walton Hocutt (52) of natural causes on January 7, 2026. He is the son of William Harmon Hocutt and Patricia Schill Hocutt. He was born on May 18, 1973 in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina.
Mark graduated from Wando High School in June of 1991. He attended Coastal Carolina University for 2 years. Following that, he had a very eventful and varied career. He worked at Page's Thieves Market for many years. Later he became the co-owner of the Griffon Pub and Jimmy Dengates in Downtown Charleston. He worked in many capacities in the food and beverage industry. At his death, he was employed by Saint John's Parish Church as the sexton, where he was also a dedicated member of the church. Although he had no formal training, he became very proficient in many trades. He spent many hours assisting family and friends with various home repairs. Many people have said over the years, "Mark can fix anything."
In addition to his parents, Bill and Patricia, Mark is survived by his two sons, Graham and Banks Hocutt and their mother Sarah Estes Hocutt. He is also survived by his three sisters Beth Hocutt, Susan Hocutt, and his twin sister Julie Hocutt Neville (Andy). He is survived by his aunts, Carolyn Schill Eiserhardt (Chuck), Jeannie Schill Hillock (Gordon), Ann Hocutt Traxler (Chuck), Ellen Hocutt Stanton (Sam), and uncle, Joseph Spencer Schill. He is survived by niece, Anna Mansfield and nephew, Legare Mansfield. He is also survived by his dearest friends, Jon and Ashley Grandin and family.
Mark was a loving and devoted father to his two sons. He was extremely loyal to his parents, sisters and friends, who could always count on him for absolutely anything, especially a good story and a laugh. Many fond memories were had over the years, from the Snee Farm neighborhood and swim team, to his good times with his lifelong friends at Christ Our King and surrounding parochial schools, the Wando parking lot, and especially at Hocutt's Hideaway at Edisto Beach.
His funeral service will be held at Saint John's Parish Church at Haute Gap Middle School 1861 Bohicket Road, Johns Island, South Carolina, 29455 at 11 am, Saturday, January 17, 2026. Family members will be available to greet friends one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the building fund at Saint John's Parish Church.
