Eileen Glenn Obituary

GLENN, Eileen Eileen Sullivan Glenn died peacefully in Charleston, South Carolina on Tuesday, April 21, 2009 after a long illness. She was 70. Eileen had moved to South Carolina when she and her husband retired in 1994. Before moving to South Carolina, they lived in McLean, Virginia for 30 years. Eileen was a loving wife to Robert Lide Glenn and a devoted mother to her girls. She was also a favorite teacher and parent at The Langley School in McLean, Virginia. She was loved by her students and respected by her colleagues. During her time at Langley, she served on numerous committees, as well as positions of leadership including service as President of the Board. Prior to her marriage, she taught in the Falls Church City Schools. Eileen was passionate about her family, and she was committed throughout her life to education. Eileen was an active member of the Junior League of Northern Virginia, and served on its Board and as its Treasurer. She also served as President of the Langley High School SPTA. Eileen was a loyal parishioner at Holy Trinity Church in Washington, D.C. Eileen was born in Merrick, New York and was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Sullivan. She was also a devoted daughter-in-law of the late Mr. and Mrs. Walter Lewis Glenn of Anderson, South Carolina. She obtained a B.A. in Journalism from Oswego State College in New York and served as editor of the college newspaper. Eileen received a Master's Degree in Education from George Mason University in Virginia, where she graduated with honors. She was committed to local literacy efforts on Johns Island after moving to South Carolina with her husband. She is survived by her devoted husband, Robert Lide Glenn of Kiawah Island, South Carolina, her daughter, Anne Margaret Glenn of Richmond, Virginia, her daughter Jeanne Glenn Kepper and son-in-law, Thomas F. Kepper, of Charlotte, North Carolina, and her daughter, Mary Glenn Landrum and son-in-law, Steven D. Landrum, of Richmond Virginia; her sister, Elizabeth S. Laux of Gilmonton, New Hampshire; as well as seven beloved grandchildren. A graveside ceremony will be held at the Old Silver Brook Cemetery in Anderson, South Carolina at 11 o'clock on Saturday, April 25, 2009. The family will receive friends between 6 and 8 o'clock on Friday evening at the Downtown Chapel of the Sullivan- King Mortuary, 401 North Main Street, Anderson, South Carolina. A Memorial Mass will take place at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 9, 2009 at Holy Trinity Church in Washington, D.C. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Eileen S. Glenn Scholarship Fund at The Langley School to promote professional development for teachers.
