Ascension (for Edward J. Wright)
by Vincent Robinson
from Rantowles
to the corners of the globe
is a path left
by a man who dared to walk
where angels tread
his story is of
one
raised by the village
only to leave
and create a village
that lives on
his legacy is testimony
of a life filled with the power
of example
marked by determination
despite the obstacles
that only fueled ambition
and success
inspiring worthy imitation
by kindred spirits
and family
blessed by a community
culturally connected
through times of civil adversity
giving back through service
became his mission
Living a Christ-centered
life
grounded the foundation
for a positive impact
on all who knew him
he went from
working in the fields
to field maintenance
on the wings of birds
that fly men
hitchhiking to school
to producing scholars
from the sacred grounds
of Mt. Olivet
to the polar ice
and places between
leaning on the everlasting arms
seeding dreams into reality
just being
father
husband
mentor
leader
giver
server of humanity
lover of Christ
returning to the Mount of Olives
Life well lived

A Tribute to My Daddy
I stand before you today on behalf of my sisters and brother to tell you about Ed Wright the father as EJ referred to him and daddy as Maryann, Sharon and I called him. But regardless of what name we called him, granddaddy, great granddaddy, brother in law, uncle, or cousin he was our hero. He exemplified wisdom, love, humbleness, patience, and fairness.
As our father, Daddy believed in each one of us and was always a safety net in our time of need. Even though each of us had different needs throughout our lives, he said and showed us that as long as he was here, near or far, we would want for nothing. That was my daddy. Not only would we want for anything, my children and my children’s children would want for nothing, and my children did not want for anything. If he could help any of his family members or anyone he would. That was one of his favorite things to do.
I stand before you today grateful for the life that Daddy gave us, but particularly for the last 51 days leading up to August 10. Daddy gave us the opportunity to show him, that all of his examples of being caring and nurturing to others, managing money, and having a plan before you move were put into practice by us as we cared for him. I thank God we had the opportunity to reciprocate what he did for us and others all of his life.
But the greatest example that he showed us in those 51 days was his faith and reverence for God. His heart was broken on June 20, when mommy took her wings. His mind was set that he would go first so he set and managed his affairs and instructed us on what needed to happen when he left.
Although hard, Daddy had to come to grips that God knew Mommy needed to go first if they did not go together. But in those 51 days, he spent his time preparing to join her and he assured us that we would be all right. And even though his wings of protection and security have been taken from beneath us, he is now in heaven with his wings hovering over us.
Daddy we thank you for your love and protection, your strength in our weakness, your voice when we could not speak, and your eyes when we could not see. We will miss you greatly, but we are so much better and stronger for those 51 days of God allowing us to take care of you. We will be all right. Daddy you can rest in peace!

Dear Wright Family,
Continue to trust in the Lord for your strength. To have a mother and a father leave in such a short time. It does take a toll on you. But the Lord will give you that peace you need at this time.
With sincere condolences,
