Edward Passailaigue Obituary

Edward "Dutch" Perry Passailaigue, Jr. BELMONT, NC - Former Georgia resident, Lieutenant Colonel (Ret.) Edward "Dutch" Perry Passailaigue Jr., 81, Special Forces Group (Airborne) died February 16, 2014, at his home in Belmont, N.C. surrounded by his loving family. A memorial service will be held on the Isle of Palms, S. C. on July 4, 2014. Dutch was born July 4, 1932, in Salt Lake City, Utah to Col. (Ret.) Edward Perry Passailaigue, Sr. and his wife Edith. Dutch was a graduate of the University of Georgia. He entered the U.S. Army in 1957, where he honorably served as a highly decorated soldier for more than twenty-eight years. LTC Passailaigue received the National Defense Service Medal (1st Oak Leaf Cluster), Master Parachutist Badge, Army of Occupation Medal (Berlin), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Combat Infantry Badge (2 awards), Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal (1st Oak Leaf Cluster), Korean Service Medal with Bronze Star, Army Commendation Medal (1st Oak Leaf Cluster), Republic of Vietnam Honorary Jump Wings, Republic of Vietnam Special Forces Honorary Jump Wings, German Parachute Badge, British Parachute Badge, Imperial Iranian Jump Wings, Good Conduct Medal, Belgium Parachute Badge, Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal, Air Medal (2 awards), Vietnam Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Republic of Vietnam Civil Actions Medal 1st Class, Cambodian Jump Wings. Dutch was a resident of Cumming, Georgia until his marriage to his beloved wife Emma Cottingham on March 6, 2010. In 2011, they relocated to their homes in Belmont, N.C. and the Isle of Palms, S.C. Dutch was both a philanthropist and an avid hunter. He enjoyed travelling throughout his service years and his retirement. Dutch's generosity and kind heart were an inspiration to his family. He served his country as a patriot and lived his life with integrity and bravery. He is survived by his wife Emma Passailaigue, his children Alice Cottingham, Amy Cottingham, Melissa Phillips, Nancy Buchinski, and Llew Cottingham along with nine grandchildren. Dutch is also survived by his godson, Frank H. Reichel, III, his cousins Henry M. Powell, Lillian L. Martin, Charles Williams, Beatrice H. Reichel, Jack M. Passailaigue, his niece Katie Merritt and Mrs. Betty Burtis. The family requests that In lieu of flowers, contributions be made in Dutch's memory to the Salvation Army or the Shriners.
