Dear Gail...Ed's photo and obituary were printed in the Boston Globe on Sunday 7/12. Such good memories of you both when Paul and I and family spent the 1966-67 academic year at UNC Chapel Hill and Ed was on the staff at the medical center there. You were so very kind to us. Sending blessings to you and your family as you make your way through this difficult time. Paul passed away of cancer in August of 2018. Such dear guys. Fondly, Pat Sullivan

Dear Gail, Michael and family,
So sorry to hear of Dr. Hogan's passing. I had enjoyed the many times talking to him at HANA meetings and on the street. He was a fascinating man who had great breath of knowledge in all things.
Sincerely

My Deepest Sympathies to Gail and all the Hogan family on the passing of Ed. Ed was an absolute gentleman, a brilliant neurologist and academic. He was a fantastic mentor to me during my postgraduate studies at NUI, Galway and taught me so much during my time there. We had many wonderful conversations over a cup of tea in Smokies Cafe. I am so grateful to have known Ed and call him my friend. I will never forget you Ed, you helped me so much in being the professional and person I am today. May your Gentle Soul Rest In Peace.

Dear Hogan Family,
Uncle Eddie was my godfather and we were very blessed to have him in our lives. I will always remember the sparkle and pride in Gramie's eyes when she spoke about Uncle Eddie and what he and his beautiful family were doing. Eddie and his siblings clearly shared a special bond, setting the standard for the Hogan (Mullen/Deveau) families surrounding the value of family. I am grateful for all the family gatherings through the years where we stayed connected. I appreciated that Eddie said a prayer at my wedding (before the meal). I loved being able to call Uncle Eddie to ask him about a medical situation as his knowledge was amazing and his calm delivery appreciated. I will also remember the grace that surrounded Edward as he interacted with people, making strong connections with anyone he encountered. My love, thoughts and prayers are with all of you. xoxo Love, Linda

Dear Gail and family, I am so sorry to hear today of Eds passing. What a lovely, kind, gentle, friendly and genuine man. I knew Ed for about 15 years, when he joined the discipline of Microbiology at the National University of Ireland Galway as Adjunct Professor. He was such an asset to us all. A brilliant mind and scientist. He was so enthusiastic, welcoming and interested and he had time for everyone. He could simply fit in, in any situation, mingle with top scientists and students with the same ease and persona.
I looked forward each year to Eds return to Galway and sadly, he hadnt been back to us for a few years. I will miss him and our long chats about anything and everything, his humour and the occasional pint of Guinness in the bar. He was so proud of his family.
He is one person that I will always remember fondly. It was an honour to have known him.
My deepest sympathies to you.

So sad to hear of Ed's passing, Gail and family. A wonderful, caring man with time for everyone. I will always cherish the most enjoyable discussions on science and life with Ed, and of course on hearing from Ed about the supreme quality of the pint of Guinness to be had in the pubs of Leenane. Ed was a brilliant mentor not only to me but to my postgraduate students as well. Thank you Ed, you will be sadly missed, rest in peace.

Mrs. Hogan (still can't call you Gail), Patrick, Maryellen, Maura Gail, Timothy, and Michael: My thoughts and prayers for you and your family as you mourn. I worked with Dr. Hogan for about 35 years and he was such a "Southern" gentleman. We discussed family, Folly Beach, Charleston, UNC Tarheels, running, Catholicism, grammar (; and, or not) - and sometimes Neurology. Rest now, Dr. Hogan; job well done for many!
