BERNAT, Edward

Edward William Bernat, 79, of Mount Pleasant, SC, entered into eternal rest Thursday, May 25, 2006. Born February 11, 1927 in Binghamton, New York to the late Martin Bernat and Lucy Vint, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife Margaret Magdalene Kostelnik Bernat. Mr. Bernat was a WWII Army veteran and graduate of Syracuse University School of Communications, Syracuse, NY. He retired from International Business machines (IBM) Corporation after 30 years as a marketing and sales account manager. He was currently employed by Dunes West Golf Club as a course ranger and sales contest representative. He was a member of Christ Our King Catholic Church of Mount Pleasant. Surviving Mr. Bernat are a son, Terrence Edward Bernat (Karen) of Ridgefield, CT, and two daughters; Sandra Margaret Rausch (Robert) of Albuquerque, NM, and Karen Lynne Mahaffey (Bruce) of Beavercreek, OH. He has five grandchildren; Jennifer Mahaffey, Caitlin Mahaffey, Stephen Rausch, Christopher Rausch, and Andrew Rausch. He was predeceased by brothers; Martin and Frank Bernat and sisters; Lucille Mueller and Ann Marie Evans. Ed was an avid sports fan and very athletic in his prime. He excelled in swimming, baseball, basketball and bowling, but his favorite passion was golf. His easy-going nature, wonderful sense of humor, and generosity of heart and soul, earned him the admiration and respect of all who were fortunate to know and love him. Ed was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, and friend to all. He will truly be missed by all whose lives he touched. A Funeral Mass with military honors will be tomorrow at 12:00 noon, at Christ Our King Catholic Church, 1122 Russell Drive, Mount Pleasant, SC. Memorial contributions can be made in his name to The American Heart Association, 409 King Street, Suite 300, Charleston, SC 29401 or St. Jude's Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
