Edna Malcolm Obituary

MALCOLM, Edna Edna Knight Malcolm of Mount Pleasant, SC, widow of Lt. Col. Richard James Malcolm, died Tuesday, January 31, 2006. The relatives and friends of Edna Malcolm are invited to attend her funeral service at the Franke Home at Seaside, Saturday, February 4, 2006 at 1:00 o'clock. Interment will be private. Friends may call at J. HENRY STUHR, INC., MOUNT PLEASANT CHAPEL Friday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 o'clock. Mrs. Malcolm was born in Simpsonville, SC, daughter of the late Stober Dee Knight and Hattie Grogan Knight. She was a graduate of Spartanburg General Hospital School of Nursing and was a Lieutenant in the Army Nursing Corps. during World War II. She took post graduate courses in nursing at John Hopkins Nursing Center and was a staff nurse at John Hopkins in the Neo-Natal Intensive Care Unit. She worked in the office of Dr. Otis Pickett for three years. She was active in nursing for over fifty years. Mrs. Malcolm volunteered at the Baltimore County Mental Health Department for twelve years, and served as a Red Cross volunteer at the VA Hospital in Charleston for seven years. She loved her family and was an avid reader and excellent golfer. She is survived by one son, Dr. Robert J. Malcolm, Jr. of Mt. Pleasant, SC, two daughters, Jane Malcolm Hite of Ashville, NC and Mary Malcolm Diamond of New York City, NY. Five grandchildren, Dr. Robert J. Malcolm, III of New York City, NY, William J. Malcolm of Port Saint Lucie, FL, Anne Y. Malcolm of Charleston, SC, Andrew M. Hite of Boston, MA and Russell A. Hite of Baltimore, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Health Science Foundation, CDAP, MUSC, 18 Bee Street, Charleston, SC 29425. Dear Mary and the Malcolm family,

I was sorry to hear of the loss of your mother. I would often see her while visiting my father at the Franke Home and she always had a book open in her lap! I know you will miss her and I pray you will take great comfort in the memories you both made together.
