Edith Bonds Obituary

Edith McCallum Bonds MT. PLEASANT - Edith McCallum Bonds, aged 96, of Mount Pleasant, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2023. Thank you to our friends at Mount Pleasant Gardens for the great care given to our Mama. She was born on October 25, 1926 in Anderson, SC to Lula and Frank McCallum. She had four siblings, John, Neil, Hazel and is survived by her younger sister, Delia. Edith was a proud graduate of Winthrop University with a business degree and retired employee from the audit department of the Internal Revenue Service. She was most proud of being married to Robert (Bob) Bonds, Sr, of Georgetown, SC, (wounded WWII veteran, Clemson football player, Clemson graduate), for 37 years prior to his death, and her four children, six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She moved more than 20 times with Bob's career as a textile engineer and supported the family by raising the children prior to starting her career with the IRS. She is survived by her son, Robert Bonds, Jr. (Carol) of Surfside Beach, SC; daughter, Martha Bonds (Russ) of Isle of Palms, SC; son, Wallace Bonds of Isle of Palms, SC; and daughter, Patricia Bonds Hall (Correll) of Mount Ulla, NC. Edith was a devoted member of the Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church and volunteered for years as a Pink Lady at the East Cooper Hospital. Raised during the Great Depression, she never complained, about anything, even as age brought her pain. She was loving, generous and a devoted Christian. She was also extremely tough. She loved the beach and never used sunscreen, ever. Her children loved her and respected her greatly. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to a dementia research charity or a charity of your choice. Memorial Celebration will be held at a later date. For may years Mrs. Bonds welcomed me into her home, Union, Douglasville, and Mt. Pleasant. She was always gracious. Much love and deepest sympathy to the entire family.

I am so sorry to hear about Ms. Edith passing away. I was in the same SS Class with her at Mt Pleasant Presbyterian Church. she was a true `Southern Lady´. I missed her so much when she was unable to come any longer. I am praying for all the family.

I remember Edith from volunteering at East Cooper medical center. I was the manager of Community Relations and oversaw the volunteer organization. Edith was a dedicated volunteer who exemplified grace, kindness, and dedication to the patients, staff and visitors at the hospital. I will always remember her kindness and sweet smile!
