Dorothy Knight Obituary

Dorothy Knight CHARLESTON - Dorothy Marlene Knight, 89, of Charleston, SC, beloved wife of Melvin Clyde Knight, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, September 6, 2023 with her husband and children by her side. Her Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 1393 Miles Dr., Charleston, SC 29407 at 2:00 pm. Interment will be held at Riverview Memorial Park immediately following the ceremony. The family will receive friends Monday at the J. Henry Stuhr Inc., West Ashley from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Marlene was born October 1, 1933 in Charleston, SC, daughter of the late James Theodore Fralix and the late Ellen Victoria Fralix. She was born the 2nd of 9 children. She graduated from Chicora High School in 1952. She started dating Melvin in 1948, when she was just 15 years old, married the love of her life on October 5, 1952, and remained by his side for the remainder of her life, and their love for each other was immeasurable. She was an active member of The Church of the Good Shepherd. Marlene and her husband, Melvin, were members of their church choirs for more than 50 years. Some of her greatest pleasures were decorating the church for Christmas and other special occasions, being a Lay Eucharistic Minister, and being a member of the Daughters of the King. Marlene was an active and enthusiastic member, vocalist, and past president of the BPO DOES. The two of them raised 4 children and were always present at numerous dance recitals, concerts, school awards, and sporting events in order to cheer on their children and grandchildren. Whether celebrating the birth of a grandchild or sitting at the bedside of someone who was ill, Marlene put everyday concerns aside to be available. She could be seen entertaining residents of nursing homes and volunteering at the Ronald McDonald House and numerous charities. Family and friends always came first with Marlene. Marlene's legacy is her faith, family, and her husband, Melvin of 71 years. She will be deeply missed. She is survived by her Devoted Husband, Four Children, Cindy McLeod (Doug) of Walterboro, SC, Maria Rentz (Michael) of Charleston, SC, Melanie Wise of Charleston, SC, Melvin Knight, Jr. (Paula) of Charleston, SC; Three Siblings, Annette Leonard of Columbia, SC, Henry Fralix (Ann) of Charleston, SC, Deborah Vergere (John) of Holly Hill, SC; Nine Grandchildren, Kristen Marlene Whitfield (Jeff), D.J. Wise (Bri), Michael Rentz (Taylor), Elizabeth Marlene Cundiff (Ian), Patrick Wise, Marshall Rentz, Madelyn Knight, Allison Knight, Garrett Knight; and Nine Great-Grandchildren, Kylie, McKenna, Rooks, Leighton, Coleman, Aubrey, Abigail, Adalynn, Calli; She was preceded in death by her Father, James Theodore Fralix; Mother, Ellen Victoria Henrics Fralix; Grandson, Douglas Hunter McLeod; Three Brothers, James Fralix, Jr., Herbert Fralix, Robert Fralix; and Two Sisters, Joan Payne, Barbara Hill. In Lieu of Flowers, Memorials may be made to The Church of The Good Shepherd. A memorial message may be sent to the family by visiting our website at www.jhenrystuhr.com.

Family is one of the most cherished blessings God gives us. When we lose one of us, it´s always a sad time and they are missed. But for those who love God and trust Jesus, death moves us closer to an eternity in the loving arms of our Lord.
I fondly remember the "person" of my Aunt Marlene, but I rejoice that her soul is at peace.

The Knight Family,

My condolences are with each of you during this time of sorrow. My family grew up in East Oak Forrest with The Knight family. My mother (Rose Kalman) and Ms. Marlene spent many long hours at Albermarle Elementary PTA school carnivals making sure everything was perfect and that donations were given.
God Bless.

I am truly sorry to hear of Marlene´s passing. She was an Angel sent from God to do His work on Earth. She never turned down any request that my family asked of her to sing at weddings, anniversaries or funerals. Heaven´s choir has another beautiful voice.
My deepest sympathy and condolences to the family.
