Dorothy Joyner Obituary

Dorothy Nease Joyner Charleston - Dorothy Nease Joyner, 85, of Charleston, South Carolina, wife of Willard M. Joyner entered into eternal rest Sunday, February 19, 2017. Her Funeral Service will be held Wednesday February 22, 2017 in Pinecrest Baptist Church, 1285 Ashley Hall Road at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends in the Church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Arrangements by J. HENRY STUHR INC., WEST ASHLEY CHAPEL. Interment will be held Friday February 24th in Double Heads Baptist Church Cemetery, Sylvania, GA at 1:00 p.m. with family receiving friends at Double Heads Baptist Church from 12:00 p.m. until the time of interment. Arrangements by Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home, Sylvania, GA. Dorothy was born November 22, 1931, in Savannah, Georgia, daughter of the late Julius Israel and Augusta Effie Nease. She attended Chatham and Effingham County Schools graduating from Marlowe High School in 1949, where she lettered in basketball. She later attended business school and her working career began in many departments with Union Bag Corporation in Savannah Georgia where she met her future husband. Dorothy retired as office manager from Northbridge Baptist Church in Charleston where she served for 23 years. She was a devoted member of St. Andrews Baptist, Northbridge Baptist, Rutledge Memorial Baptist and Pinecrest Baptist Churches where she sang in the church choir and served as a Sunday school teacher. In her spare time she loved to travel (including a trip to the Holy Land) and create art through her paintings, pencil drawings, needlework and smocking. She was an avid reader and wonderful cook. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Willard Matthew Joyner, three sons Gregory Wayne Joyner and spouse Carol Douglas Joyner of Cottageville, SC; Brian Keith Joyner and special friend Deborah of North Charleston, SC; Curtis Matthew Joyner and spouse Jill Hucks Joyner of Charleston SC; four grandchildren, Amanda Douglas Reddick and spouse Bruce of Lincolnville, SC; Dalton Riera of Charleston, SC; Matthew Ray Joyner of Charleston, SC; and Kendall Lynn Joyner of Clemson, SC; two great-grandchildren Amy and Lilly Reddick and many loving nieces and nephews. Our heartfelt thanks go to Dora Johnson for caring for mom these past three and half years and the hospice nurses and attendants over these past few weeks. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Pinecrest Baptist Church building fund, 1285 Ashley Hall Road. Charleston, SC 29407.
