Delbert Howell Obituary

Delbert Howell, Sr. Goose Creek - Delbert L. Howell, Sr., 88, of Goose Creek, SC, passed away at his residence, with his wife, Evelyn, by his side on October 20, 2018. He was born on August 27, 1930, in New Castle, IN, son of Norma Peaslee and Edward Howell. Delbert was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Barbara Bell. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Evelyn Brannon Howell, of Goose Creek, SC; children: Delbert L. Howell, Jr. (Deborah) of Lakewood, WA; E. Joanne Huckstep of Goose Creek, SC; E. Joyce Crosby (Stephen) of Goose Creek, SC; David L. Howell (Susan) of Virginia Beach, VA and Elaine J. Ackerman (Mason) of Goose Creek, SC; 12 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Del was a boatswain mate and deep sea diver in the US Navy, and retired after 20 years of service. He then went into Law Enforcement with the Goose Creek Police Department where he retired in 1985. Del was a life-time Mason at Goose Creek Masonic Lodge 401. He was a member of John L Flynn Eastern Star Chapter 277. He was also a member of the American Legion, Fleet Reserve, VFW and Moose Lodge where he was also a life-time member. Del enjoyed being around friends and family. He liked playing cards, deep sea fishing, traveling across the US with his wife, Evelyn, and visited every state, except Hawaii. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In his later years he enjoyed making tabletop Christmas trees which he sold around Goose Creek, calling himself "Treeman". The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 27, 2018, from 12:00pm to 1:00pm at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home Goose Creek. A memorial service will follow at 1:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Plantation Memorial Gardens, Moncks Corner, SC. Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions made to the Alzheimer's Association, 2090 Executive Hall Rd., #130, Charleston, SC 29407.
