David Harris Obituary

David Charles Harris, 78, a retired engineer with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and husband of Kathy B. Harris, entered into eternal rest on January 19, 2026, after a prolonged battle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF).

Mr. Harris was born in Charleston, SC on November 20, 1947, the son of Woodrow and Margaret Harris. He was a graduate of North Charleston High School and Clemson University. He was very active in Midland Park United Methodist Church of North Charleston, SC and Prospect United Methodist Church of Lawrenceville, GA. He was also a faithful member Summerville Methodist Church. Highlights of his career were his work to support victims of natural and/or manmade disasters in various locations throughout the country as part of designated emergency response teams. He worked tirelessly during Hurricane Hugo, Hurricane Andrew, fires in California, floods throughout Georgia and, also Hurricane Katrina.

Mr. Harris is survived by his wife, Kathy, of 33 years; a sister, Virginia Hinds (Robert), children, Stacey Moody (Billy) of Elgin, SC, Kelly Stello (Alan) of Williamsburg, VA, Rob Meyer (Jennifer) of Charleston, SC, Michael Meyer (Rebecca) of Pensacola, FL, and Kathryn Webb (Tim) of Prior Lake, MN. Mr. Harris was especially proud of his eight grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Medical University of South Carolina – Hospice at Home by Bayada.

A gathering of family and friends will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2026, from 6pm to 8pm at James A. Dyal Funeral Home, 303 S. Main Street, Summerville, SC 29483. A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 23, 2026, at 11:00am at Bethany UMC Spell Chapel, 118 W. 3rd St, Summerville, SC 29483.
