Peggy Raines Obituary

Peggy Janes Raines HANAHAN - Peggy Jane Raines, 76, passed away on November 29, 2025, at Trident Hospital in Goose Creek, South Carolina. She was born July 26, 1949, in Charleston, South Carolina, to William and Sara Cooper. Peggy attended North Charleston High School and graduated from Murray Vocational High School. She enlisted in the United States Navy and served for three years. Following her military service, she worked in the Supply Department at the Charleston Naval Shipyard and later with the South Carolina Department of Transportation, including the Construction Office and the Right of Way Department, prior to retirement. A woman of faith, Peggy enjoyed reading her Bible and watching classic movies-especially Gone with the Wind. She was active in church life at Park Circle Presbyterian Church, where she was elected to the Session and served on several committees, and later at Yeamans Park Presbyterian Church, where she also served on committees. Peggy is survived by her husband, James Raines; her daughter, Penny Raines; her sister, Patricia Pelfrey; her niece, Nicki Abbott (William); her grandchildren, Katelin Galloway (Eric) and Matthew Colby (Emily); and her great-grandson, Louis Colby. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Sara Cooper; her brother, William Cooper; and her sister, Elaine Cooper. A service will be held on December 12, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Yeamans Park Presbyterian Church, 5931 Murray Dr., Hanahan, SC 29410. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Yeamans Park Presbyterian Church.
