Dave has been a major influence and inspiration in my life since I met him in 1994. I decided then to change from working on surface ships and to move over to the submarine world, as I had great admiration for his work ethic and his drive for perfection. For me, Dave was a mentor, a friend, a leader, and a very positive influence in my life. I will miss him greatly.

Was saddened to hear of the passing of David. He was the young engineer that came to work with all of us "older" guys at CNSYD in the Electronics area. He became an asset at Combat Systems and great help to the Shop 67 submarine workers. And we had some laughs working together. Rest in peace, DAB.

Dave touched many lives at NIWC. Dave was a shining star in this world, he was dedicated to his family and the NIWC mission. His leadership, wisdom, and laughter will be missed around the command. Please accept our deepest sympathies for your loss.

Dave represents the very best as a patriot, servant leader, friend, teacher, mentor and warrior. He poured his love into his own family and his "work family."
NIWC Atlantic and its predecessor organizations, the Submarine Force, the Navy and our Nation are forever indebted to Dave for his selfless sacrifice, superior technical skills, dedication to the warfighter, and compassionate leadership.
He will be greatly missed and long remembered.
Heartfelt prayers and condolences to Dave´s families and friends.

I am in shock seeing this notice. Dave was my first gov't supervisor on a temporary basis and then later I was at SPAWAR/NIWC on a permanent basis. I always looked up to him and his integrity and mentioned that quite often when I saw him. I know for a fact that he loved his family so much. I honestly don't know what to say except that you can be so proud of him and he was so proud of you. May God bless you all and help you through this.

My thoughts/memories of Dave match the other condolence messages that his friends and co-workers left. I also remember him as a man of honor and integrity, thoughtful and considerate, hardworking but with cheerful enthusiasm. He was someone that I always trusted and truly enjoyed working with over the 20 years that I knew him. For those of us who knew him professionally, the world feels a little emptier now.

We met when I was in the Combat Systems Office at Charleston Naval Shipyard and he came to work for us there. He came with an outstanding work ethic and we became friends. He will be missed greatly. Rest in peace my friend and God be with you. Until we meet again smooth sailing.

Dave, words are inadequate to express my feelings of loss. You will be missed by so many of us who were blessed to have known you. A man of honor and integrity, thoughtful, considerate, and hardworking. He loved his family and enjoyed his service to the submarine community. Always a pleasure to be around, in and out of work.
I will miss your quick wit, smile, and enthusiasm.
My heartfelt condolences for the loss of your devoted husband and father. I wish you peace through these times of grief.
Respectfully yours, Drew Smith

This loss is staggering. Dave was my boss, mentor, advisor and friend for over twenty years. He set the tone, and he exemplified devotion to the mission. My heart goes out to AJ and Maggie, whom he absolutely adored. We at LANT will strive to carry on and to live up to the example Dave set, despite our profound sorrow.

I first met Dave during my first trip to Charleston when I went to SPAWAR. He was the guy! Dave was my mentor and friend. His devotion to his work, team and family were reflected in everything he did. Rest easy and we will meet again one day.

To Dave, his family, and the NIWC family, Dave will be missed. He was truly a driven individual and made a major impact on submarine communications and the people he worked with. I worked with Dave since 1987. With Dave, it was more, "It's all about the people (operators and his team) more than it's all about the ships" and he cared about both with extreme passion.

Never said no, always resourceful and if he didn´t know he´d find out... God only knows how many off the clock phone calls, text and emails he answered... Always willing to help... They say no one is irreplaceable, Dave may be the exception. RIP Dave... you will be missed!!

To the family of David Bednarczyk - My sincerest condolences, my thoughts are with you in this difficult time. I first met Dave in the 80's while serving as a young Radioman onboard USS Sea Devil in Charleston, we worked together in various assignments over the years, and I was always amazed at his knowledge, work ethic, and compassion. The Submarine Force, the Submarine Communications family, and me personally have lost a leader, innovator, and a true friend.

Years ago, when a submarine icon passed away, I will always remember, he said, "There has been a disturbance in the force." I can only say this is very fitting for Dave Bednarczyk. While he never served in the navy Dave's contributions to the submarine force were beyond reproach. Dave was a friend and a mentor to many in the submarine community. His loss will be widely felt. Rest in peace Dave, rest your oars, we have the watch.

There are not enough characters available to truly describe my loss and feelings. He will live on in our memories. For what I have witnessed in the last week, he will find comfort in the love and courage displayed by his children. I assured him that he has nothing to worry about with them. I will miss him.
