Constance Whelan Obituary

WHELAN, Constance Constance Mirenda Whelan, 76, of Sullivan's Island, died Sunday, April 3, 2005 at her home. Born January 28, 1929 in Philadelphia, PA, the daughter of the late Gaetano Thomas and Mary (Grottola) Mirenda. Connie spent her life doing what was most important to her, loving and taking care of her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stephen W. Whelan, Sr. on February 11, 1993. She is survived by her two sons: Stephen W. Whelan, Jr. and his wife, Jacqueline of Charleston, SC and Michael P. Whelan and his wife, Joann of Exton, PA; two daughters: Donna W. Silagi and her husband, Paul of Tampa, FL and Lisa W. Darby and her husband, Chris of San Diego, CA; a brother: Richard Mirenda of Glassboro, NJ; a sister: Angela Graham of Clifton Heights, PA and four grandchildren: Christopher P. Whelan, Stephanie M. Whelan, Christy M. Whelan and Brandon M. Whelan; sixteen nieces and nephews. Family and friends will gather from 6-8PM with the Rosary being recited at 6PM on Wednesday, April 6, 2005 at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, DOWNTOWN CHAPEL, 150 Wentworth Street, Charleston. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 11AM on Thursday, April 7th at Stella Maris Catholic Church, Middle Street, Sullivan's Island. Interment will follow at Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to St. John's Catholic School Scholarship Fund, 3921 St. John's Avenue, North Charleston, SC 29405. Your mother befriended my mother, Lillian Stallard, at Christ Our King in 1986. They attended mass during the week and then went to breakfast. She was a great friend. Your mother was a kind and graceous lady. My thoughts and prayers.
