Charles Alvia "Charlie" Williams, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed peacefully from this life on February 3, 2026, at the age of 89. Born on April 18, 1936, in Hallsboro, North Carolina, Charlie spent his final days surrounded by his loving family.
Charlie's life was a tapestry woven with dedication, service, and love. From humble beginnings Charlie went on to achieved an abundant life as a proud veteran of the United States Air Force and later as a graduate of Charleston Southern University. His professional career culminated with his retirement as a Radar Facilities Supervisor with the Federal Aviation Administration, where his leadership and expertise were greatly valued.
With an adventurous spirit, Charlie loved to travel and explored many corners of the world. His hands were never idle; he found joy in tinkering, especially with his vintage John Deere tractor. An avid outdoorsman, he found peace hiking, tending to his fishpond, and passionately observing birds. His devotion to his grandchildren was profound, fondly hosting them at what he lovingly called "Camp Granddaddy."
Charlie's faith was the cornerstone of his life. He was deeply committed to his relationship with the Lord and actively participated in various church communities throughout his life. While attending Citadel Square Baptist Church in Charleston, SC, he was a leader in the Royal Ambassadors, teaching a weekly class and taking youth on retreats to Camp McCall. As a member of Summerville Baptist Church, he served as a Deacon and ministered to inmates at the MacDougall Correctional Facility. In his later years, at Hendersonville First Baptist Church, he continued his service as a Deacon and volunteered with the Crosswalk After School Program for 20 years. He engaged in mission outreach projects across the US and abroad in Russia, Turkey, and beyond, doing what he could to spread the Gospel. He did this not to seek self-glory, but to point others to the love of Christ, His mercy, and forgiveness, which is the only chance we as sinful humans have.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Jason Van Williams, Sr. and Hattie Pierce Williams; his first wife, Lois Moe Williams, and their child Theresa; his second wife, Juanita Lewis Williams; his third wife, Victoria Phifer Williams; as well as six sisters, Martha Gladys Williams, Margaret Williams Inman, Mildred Williams McCall, Louise Williams Benton, Geneva Williams Thomas, and Muriel Williams Moore along with one brother, Jason Van Williams Jr.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Vicki Samuel Williams; his children, Rodney Charles Williams and wife Kathy, and Lisa Williams Redden and husband Jeff; step-children Aaron Hughey and Katie Hodge; grandchildren Hannah Elizabeth McKinney and husband Seamus, John Thomas Williams, Cate Lewis Regalbuto, Clare Hall Regalbuto, and Charlie Anne Regalbuto; great-grandchildren Marshall Legare McKinney and Shealeigh Elizabeth McKinney; and numerous nieces and nephews.
