Charles Herron Obituary

Charles Paul Herron, Jr. N. CHARLESTON - Charles Paul Herron, Jr., age 72, passed away in Charleston, SC, on Monday, May 16, 2016 surrounded by family and friends. Family will receive friends on Thursday, 5/19 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Journey Baptist Church. Burial service will be Friday, 5/20 at 2:00 PM at Journey Baptist Church, 8723 Salamander Road, North Charleston, SC, with interment following at Carolina Memorial cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be donated to Beacon Hospice. Chuck was born in Gastonia, NC on September 6, 1943, son of Charles Herron, Sr. and Ruth Helen Stuart. Chuck served as a Deputy Sheriff for Dorchester County Sheriff's Office where he retired in 1998 after serving in the United States Air Force. He graduated from East Carolina University with Bachelor's in Business. Serving the public and being a law enforcement officer was one of his greatest passions. Chuck also loved teaching students at his Karate school in Charleston & Charlotte. Chuck earned his black belt in Karate from his Sensei Dave Adams, who wrote, "It is a day to celebrate the life of Charles Herron, one of my black belts and dear friends. Thank you for the wonderful years of laughter, vigorous workouts, and unity with our family. Your memory will always be one of joy and celebration. We are all better people from knowing you. Now, in His hands, we thank God for giving us the time with you." Another interest that brought Chuck great joy was working with Dixie Youth Baseball organization as District Director. Chuck is survived by his wife Dana, his son Chad Herron and wife Cindy, daughter Tamera Burdette & husband Bobby, daughter Tanya Barnette & husband Mickey, father Bill Kiser, brother Glenn Kiser & wife Nancy. Grandchildren, Harley Herron, Dana Carroll (Jamie), Becky Knapp (Bruce), Trey Burdette (Cheyenne), Jamie Chinners, Will Chinners, Peighton Barnett, and Liam Barnett. Great-grandchildren, Cooper Long, Haylee Carroll, Brayden Knapp, Hunter Knapp, and Mackenzie Knapp. Chuck is preceded in death by his first wife Barbara Herron, his son Chuckie Herron, his mother Ruth Stuart Kiser, and biological father Charles Paul Herron, Sr. Special thank you to Griswold Homecare, Beacon Hospice, Heartland of Charleston, Dr. Hanna & staff, Dr. Wingo & Nurse Joy, and MUSC Medical ICU unit staff. I remember Mr. Chuck from the baseball field by Goodwin Elementary when I lived in Charleston. I was only about 15 at the time, but he was always kind and soft spoken. I know that his family will miss him dearly.
