Carol Anne Stacy Harley

Carol Harley Obituary

Carol Anne Stacy Harley COLUMBIA - Carol Anne Stacy Harley, 69, passed away on December 31, 2012 at the C.M. Tucker Nursing Care Center. Born the daughter of Edwin Stacy and Virginia Brinkley on February 14, 1943 in Spartanburg, S.C., she was raised by her aunt and uncle Katie and Jack Young after her parents passed away at an early age. Carol attended Spartanburg High School and Converse College before earning her degree in English from the University of Georgia, where she became an avid Bulldog fan. While in high school she had met Wofford College student Peter W. Harley III, whom she married in 1962. In 1969, after the years in Georgia and several army bases, she moved with her husband and three children from Ft. Meade, Maryland to Columbia. With a severely handicapped son of her own, Carol made it her life's work to help others in the same situation, working for years at the South Carolina Handicapped Services Information System and pursuing a degree in clinical psychology. Also possessing a strong creative sensibility, she enjoyed writing songs and acting on stage in her younger years, and making various things with her hands. She is survived by her sons, Patrick, James and Jeremy Harley of Columbia, and by her sister, Judy Davis, of Jacksonville, Florida. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 5, 2013, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m. Please sign the online guestbook at www.dunbarfunerals.com.
