Brennan Bennett Obituary

Brennan Roye Bennett Charleston - Brennan Roye Bennett, beloved son, brother, grandson and friend, left this Earth at the youthful age of 21 on March 26, 2018. He was a soul from a different time. Brennan was strong yet gentle, a sweet and kind young man who touched the lives of the many that loved him. He was proper, funny, resilient, distinguished, smart, handsome and talented and dearly loved his pets. He had a smile that made you think he knew something that you didn't-and he probably did! Brennan whole-heartedly believed in living a life of being kind to others and that is exactly the life he lived. In high school Brennan was a distinguished Latin Scholar, achieving Magna Cum Laude 3 times on the National Latin Exam. To his teacher Aaron Lipka: vale, mi amice. Brennan was a proud member of the Rollins Baseball Team. An avid lover of the sport, Brennan spent most of his childhood years on the field with his loving family watching on. Brennan dreamed of one day playing college ball. He attended IMG Academy and through his work and determination under Coach Callix Crabbe, he had finally made that dream come true. His college coach said "Brennan was the best teammate he had ever coached. Always first on the field and the last to leave, Brennan exemplified the spirit of a dedicated athlete and was greatly loved by his teammates." At Rollins, Brennan found his love of Astronomy, Physics and Astrophysics. He was beginning to build a solid foundation within the field with a focus on his future dreams of earning a Ph.D. and exploring Mars. His passion and excitement for science was clear to everyone he knew. Most recently, Brennan's research proposal was accepted for funding by the Rollins Collaborative Research Program, an extraordinary feat. Dr. Christopher Fuse, his Physics professor, said "Brennan's proposal was one of the best research proposals I have ever read. What I will remember about Brennan most is when I told him how excited I was to research with him, he smiled and did the quiet laugh he often did and looked down in the humble way only Brennan could. It was classic Brennan." Brennan will always be remembered for the things that people say were "so Brennan". The kindness he so easily bestowed upon others and his encouragement of others to give the same. The way he held himself to the highest of standards, his life of integrity and purity, and his great love of his family, friends and animals. We will always remember his unique sense of humor, his love of making people laugh, and the sweet smile he'd shine on those lucky enough to have been a recipient of it. In Brennan's words, the secret to life is: Be nice to people. Love people. Pet dogs. Pursue Science. Dream BIG! "FIAT LUX" LET THERE BE LIGHT Brennan is survived by his parents, Michael and Amy Bennett, his brother Jack Bennett, Jack's girlfriend and Brennan's dear friend Rhett Baynes, his grandmother, Virginia Roye Bennett, all from Charleston. Grandparents Madeline Mae and Alan Faulkner Judkins of Houston, TX; aunts: Alice Judkins Braine, Jennifer Anne Judkins of Dallas, TX, Brenda Bennett Rosenthal, Kim Bennett Brown (Jimmy); uncles: Warren Joseph Bennett Jr., Russell Bennett (Anne), Warren Joseph Bennett III (Shannon); cousins: Alexander Opoulos IV, Nicole Opoulos Dickens, Ashley Braine Carstens, Isabelle Burnett, Ian Brown, Braylee Bennett, Weston Burnett, and Chesney Bennett, and his beloved labs Scout and Quinby. The Bennett Family will receive family, friends, and guests between 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM Monday, April 2, 2018, at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway. At 7:00 PM, those in attendance will gather in the Chapel for remarks of remembrance. All are invited to attend his Funeral Service at 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 3, 2018, at the graveside, Holy Cross Cemetery, at 604 Fort Johnson Road. Services will be followed by a 4:00 reception at The Rice Mill Building. Online condolences may be offered at www.CharlestonFunerals.com. In Lieu of Flowers, and to celebrate his love of animals, please make memorials to Pet Helpers (www.pethelpers.org), 1447 Folly Road, Charleston, SC 29412. Arrangements by JAMES A.
