Brenda Canady Obituary

Brenda Ridgeway Canady Charleston - Brenda Ridgeway Canady, of Charleston SC, entered into eternal rest Sunday May 16, 2021, at home surrounded by her family. Brenda was born December 18, 1947, in Charleston, SC, a daughter of Theodore Wilson Ridgeway and Elesa Bazar Ridgeway. She served her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ faithfully as music director of St. Andrews Parish United Methodist Church, where she met her husband of 31 years, Brian Lee Canady, Sr. She was a charter member of the Parish Ringers Handbell Choir and member of The United Methodist Women where she received the Special Recognition Award. Brenda was a graduate of Baptist College of Charleston before working as an elementary school teacher in the Charleston County School District for many years. She was a member of The National Education Association, pausing her career only to raise her children. Brenda dedicated her life to the service of others as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her husband, Brian Lee Canady, Sr.; four children: Trae Brown (Jenny), Ryan Brown (Jean), Allison Grundhoefer (Will) and Brian Canady, Jr. (Erin) and her grandchildren, Jarby Brown, Sydney Brown, Katie Brown, Abigail Brown, Ronan Canady, Josie Grundhoefer and Hailey Grundhoefer. She was preceded in death by her sister, Mary Ridgeway Thompson. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Brian L. Canady, Sr. are invited to attend her Funeral Service at 11:00 AM, Friday, May 21, 2021, at St. Andrews Parish United Methodist Church, 3225 Ashley River Rd. She will be laid to rest at Live Oak Memorial Gardens following the service. The family will receive friends between 5:00 and 7:00 PM Thursday evening at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Hwy. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Andrews Parish United Methodist Church, Bell Choir Fund, 3225 Ashley River Rd., Charleston, SC 29414.
