Bowen Asserson Obituary

Bowen Asserson, Jr., M.D. Folly Beach - Dr. Bowen "Bo" Asserson, Jr., 79, of Folly Beach, South Carolina, husband of Meme Harper Asserson, entered into eternal rest Tuesday, May 25, 2021. His Celebration of Life service will be held Monday, June 14, 2021 in St. Michael's Church, 71 Broad Street, at 2:00 p.m. with interment following in the churchyard. Afterwards, you are invited to a gathering of family and friends at Bo's home on Folly Beach. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel. Bo was born September 28, 1941 in Augusta, Georgia, son of the late Bowen Asserson and Betty Dorn Smith Asserson. He was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and The Medical College of Georgia. Bo served in the United States Navy, was a member of St. Michael's Church and was a retired pathologist. He practiced primarily in Charleston, SC, Dover, DE and Pittsburgh, PA. Bo was a loving husband and father, a generous friend and a mentor and role model to many young men. He was a man of character and principles, and his number one priority was his family. Outside of work, he enjoyed being a soccer referee in Delaware, playing duplicate bridge and boating. He also loved to share good food and wine with his friends. After retiring to Folly Beach in 2001, Bo was able to enjoy his passion for the saltwater marsh. He could often be found fishing, crabbing, shrimping and oystering. He created wonderful memories taking his friends out in his boat. Whether you were gathering oysters, exploring the marsh or enjoying the Morris Island Lighthouse, you were destined to have fun. Bo treated every person he met as his equal and was generous with those less fortunate. He will surely be missed by many. The world was a better place with him in it. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Meme Asserson of Folly Beach, SC; two sons: Bowen Christian Asserson (Lisa) of Charleston, SC, Walker Harper Asserson (Betsy) of Bozeman, MT; his brother, Rick Asserson (Robbie) of Roanoke, VA and four grandchildren: Lloyd Clayton, Henry Asserson, Jamie Asserson and Peter Asserson. Memorials may be made to D.R.E.A.M. Down Syndrome Research Education Advocacy of Montana at www.dream-mt.org, or a charity of your choice. Our sincere condolences to you, Meme, and to your family.
I am sorry I couldn't be with you at St. Michael's today, but I'm still trying to find my way back to Sambo's, outside Dover. (Now, that was a memorable outing!)

Best wishes to you, as always,
from Bo's ol' roomie,
John H. Sowder
