Betty Skenes Obituary

Betty Harvey Skenes LEXINGTON, SC - Betty Harvey Skenes, of Lexington, SC, died Tuesday January 3, 2023 after a short illness. Mrs. Skenes was born December 12, 1933 in Tyler, Texas, the daughter of Jackson Fredrick Harvey, and Cora Viola Thomas Harvey and sister to brothers, Robert, Jack, Hugh and sister, Mary. Betty spent her youth growing up in the Eau Claire area in Columbia before marrying Carl E. Skenes of Columbia and moving to James Island with a growing family. Betty reveled in the role of Mom and homemaker; watching her family grow into adulthood. Later, after her family was grown, she relocated back to the Lexington area in 1998 and reconnected with family friends from her youth. She was also a member of Lexington Baptist Church. Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Carl E. Skenes, Sr., and by her son, Carl E. Skenes, Jr., and son, Dwayne Ray Skenes, and grandson, Carl E. Skenes III. She is also preceded in death by her brother, Jack Harvey of Lexington, and her sister, Mary Shoults of Illinois. Betty is survived by her children, Gary T. Skenes (Yvonne) of Atlanta, Janice L. Skenes (Wendy) of Mount Pleasant, and Michael D. Skenes of Columbia. Additionally, she is survived by three grandchildren, Grace, Amelia, and Victoria (Dieter) and two great-grandchildren, Everleigh and Isla. She is also survived by brother, Robert J. Harvey of Bay Point, CA. Funeral services will be held 12:00 p.m. at Barr-Price Funeral Home; 609 Northwood Road; Lexington, SC 29072 Monday January 9, 2023. Visitation will be held 11am-12:00pm. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Columbia. In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty's name may be made to Lexington Baptist Church located at 308 East Main Street, Lexington, SC 29072 or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place of Memphis, TN 38105.
