Avis Duncan Obituary

There's never a minute that goes by that I don't think of my lil sister. When she passed, I'd pray to receive a message that she was at peace. While Mommy and I packed her apartment, on her bookshelf I noticed a one year personal prayer book. A page was folded, the prayer read: "Keep us, Lord, so awake in the duties of our calling that we may sleep in thy peace and wake in thy glory". The date of the prayer was January 11th, the day God called her home. I felt, here is my sign! She was letting me know that she is at peace. Mom and I are truly blessed for having her in our lives. The way she lifted us up, inspired us and taught us will stay with us for the rest of our lives. We also Thank God for our family and supportive friends.
Avis, please continue to guide me so that one day we will meet again and REJOICE!! WE LOVE YOU AND MISS YOU TERRILBY! Mommy and Dee

To Dee, I was sadden to hear about Avis. I Lost my sister 5 years ago and I still miss her today. But it does hurt a little less with each passing day. You will remember the good days and smile and I will be smiling with you. She was truely a wonderful spirit to know. May God bless and keep you. (CHS)

I went to Charleston High and SC State with Avis and Dee. We also played on Hester Park (Terri,Latrice Payne). Ms. Dot and Dee, remember the good times you shared and be comfort that you will be together again. May God Bless and keep you.

I work at the hospital and even though I didn't know Avis personally, I know she had to have been a wonderful daughter. The hardest thing we may go through as parents, is to lose a child regardless of their age. God will keep you strong and carry you through this trying time. Remember that Avis is not very far. You can go on knowing that you will be with her once more.

The bible tells us that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day, I have known Dee and Avis for more than 30 years, and my life has been enriched because of our friendship. Avis fought a good fight and now she is enjoying the reward that only God can give and that is life eternal, she would not exchange places with us even if she could, take your rest Avis, you have certainly earned it. To the family, stay faithful and faint not, and in due season you will see your loved ones again.

I had the plessure of knowin Avis while I worked at tel-a-rid, she was a beatiful person and I enjoyed her pesents when she is on the bus. God Bless Y'All.
