Avery Hardin Obituary

Avery Hardin SUMMERVILLE - Avery Hardin ended his earthly journey on August 3rd following an arduous battle with cancer. He is now at peace with his Lord. The third of four children born to Homer and Lucille Boyette Hardin, Avery was born on March 6, 1947 in Loris, South Carolina. In their early years, Avery's mom and dad moved their family to Milwaukee, Wisconsin, a true melting-pot of people looking for better opportunity and better way of life. At an early age, Avery did a sundry of odd jobs for pocket money, but when, at 15, he had learned to drive and wanted a car, his father said, Get a job. Avery did just that. As was the route for many young men in the 1960's, Avery's first job out of high school was a tour of Vietnam, where he proudly served as a noble soldier who fought valiantly for the United States government. Following active military duty and years serving in the Army National Guard, Avery had developed a camaraderie with his military brothers and sisters. Upon his return to South Carolina, his affable nature and friendly smile made it easy for him to nurture this kinship by volunteering to help veterans maneuver the winding road to acquiring their VA benefits. Throughout his life, Avery continued that ethic, always a hard worker and a good provider for his family. He drove and transported large equipment vehicles for many years and was proud when he received his hazmat license and drove his own Kenworth 18-wheeler rig, safely transporting hazardous commodities long-distance. Avery took pride in his good driving record and his practice of helping train new truck drivers and offering valuable tips for the road. If a vehicle wasn't working, no matter the vehicle, he could figure out how to make it run. In addition to big rigs, Avery had a passion for NASCAR and the muscle cars that he always drove. There were many. Avery was predeceased by his first wife, Carol; his partner of 27 years, Betty Keen; his mother and father, Homer and Lucille, as well as sisters, Sylvia and Wanda. He is survived by his son, Michael Hardin (Jennifer) of Summerville; three grandchildren, Joshua, Noah, and Matthew of mother, Stephanie Hardin of Summerville; his sister, Sondra Branch (Lenny) of Sullivans Island and nephew, Lenny Branch, Jr. of Mt. Pleasant. He is also survived by brother-in-law James Rhymer of Union, and nieces, Jessica Rhymer, Summerville, and Kristi Rhymer Kicklighter, Columbia. (Betty Keen's family) Jim and Tammy Ritter of Charleston and their children, Robert, Lauren, and Ziggy. Step-grandchildren include DesNeige, Angelina, Janina, Carmella, Kathryn and Carter. The family would also like to thank the Veterans Health Administration, Jimmie Callum of Lucky Dove Home Care, and Amedisys Hospice Care for their attention and kindness. Family and friends are invited to attend the burial with funeral side service Monday, August 19, 2024 at 2:00 pm, 1601 Boundary Road, Beaufort, SC 29902 843-524-3925.
