Arthur Darr Obituary

Arthur Darr N. CHARLESTON - Arthur E. Darr, age 95, of North Charleston, SC, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, June 20, 2025. Born in Dillsburg, Pennsylvania, Arthur was the son of the late William and Almeda (Heisey) Darr. He is survived by his beloved wife of 74 years, Doris A. Wert Darr. Their marriage, which began on June 3, 1951, was a beautiful testament to lifelong love and commitment. Arthur also leaves behind his son, Alan Barr (Karen), his daughter, Mischelle Coggins (Ronald); two sisters, Beverly Garlin and Alberta Mann; seven grandchildren; and one eagerly awaited great-grandchild. He will also be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews. Arthur was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Kenneth, Leroy, and Duane Darr; his sister, Patricia Friedline; and his sons, Gary Darr and Ronald Darr. A proud veteran, Arthur retired from the U.S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer, serving aboard the USS Enterprise as an Aviation Maintenance Administrationman. After his military service, he continued his dedication to hard work with a second career at Bosch, retiring as a skilled set-up technician. Arthur was a lifetime member of the VFW and an active member of the Lowcountry Coin Club. As a passionate numismatist, he had a particular interest in error and variety coins - finding beauty and fascination in the small anomalies that made each coin unique. In his later years, Arthur found joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially caring for the birds and squirrels that visited his backyard. Above all, he was a man devoted to his family - especially his wife, Doris, whom he cherished deeply. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, from 10:15 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., in the chapel of Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, 7113 Rivers Ave., North Charleston, SC 29406. A celebration of Arthur's life will follow at 11:00 a.m. Military honors will be rendered at the mausoleum side of Carolina Memorial Park immediately after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Arthur's name to Northwood Baptist Church at Wando Woods: northwoodwandowoods.breezechms.com. Arthur's life was one of service, loyalty, and quiet strength. He will be missed dearly and remembered always.
