Ann Patterson Obituary

Ann Jeffords Patterson CHARLESTON - The spirit of Ann Jeffords Patterson, 82, left her body on October 2, after an 8 year courageous battle with follicular lymphoma. She left this earth with her children at her side, under the care of Hospice of Charleston, to begin her next journey. Ann was born on June 16, 1934 in Florence, SC, to the late Elizabeth Sellers Jeffords and Emerson Ingram Jeffords. After graduation from Anderson Junior College, she began work for Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company / AT&T in Columbia, SC. She was a proud member of the Communication Workers of America Local 3706. After 35 years of service, she retired to her ancestral home of Charleston. She is survived by daughter Martha Dunlap, and her husband Pete, of Ladson, SC; daughter Pam Brown, and her husband Ward, of Meggett, SC; daughter Hope Barnhardt, and her husband Lane, of Mt. Pleasant, NC; grandson John Dunlap, and his wife Nicole, of Tampa, FL; grandsons Brandon Furr and Hayden Barnhardt of Mt. Pleasant, NC; sister Martha Hatchell of Williamsburg, VA; brothers Thomas Jeffords of Newport News, VA, and Warren Jeffords of Williamsburg, VA; and faithful feline companions - Jerry and Newman. A thank you to her special caregivers - Jennifer B. Nelson, D.O.; Amy Emslie, ANP; Tracy Singletary; Candy Cook; Dawn Colson of Hospice of Charleston, and the staff of Home Instead. The immediate family will have a private service to return her ashes to the earth. Memorials may be made to World Wildlife Fund, Natural Resources Defense Council, or Easter Seals South Carolina. I wish to express my sympathies to all of Mrs. Patterson's family and friends. While I did not know her personally, I knew of her through her wonderful and devoted daughter Pam, who worked with me for several excellent years. It's been said, and with good reason, that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree and that by the fruit, you will know them. Thus, I know that Mrs. Patterson had spunk, joie de vivre, a strong work ethic, and a deep abiding set of humane values -- and was a little bit stubborn, or determined. She appreciated independence and was proud of her family, whose devotion to her, especially during her hard times of illness, stands, for all of us, as eloquent testimony to her lovable qualities.

Again, my sincere condolences, and best wishes,

George McDaniel
