Dear Joannie, Dianne, Nancy, Bobby and Jack...I remember the house on Queen St with Ann and Red, the Smithys, Hewitts and Momma and Daddy...a long time ago...I also remember Momma visiting me here in New York when Red was stricken ill and her rushing back to Charleston to be with Ann. Also Ann plus some from the younger generation coming to momma's funeral a week before 9/11 which i greatly appreciated...many memories...My best to you all, Judy

Bobby,
On behalf of the Union County Development Board, I wish to offer condolences on the passing of your mother. We are deeply saddened but after reading the obituary, I know that you and your family were so blessed to have this wonderful woman in your lives. Her rich history and southern class was obvious. Our prayers are with you today.

My condolences to the Hitt Family. May fond memories of Ann Leonard Hitt sustain you through this difficult time.

Ann Hitt was my favorite grand dame of Charleston, famous in our family for her hospitality and her stories. I loved to sit next to her at any event. Where do you live, dear, she would say and off we'd go. Perhaps my favorite Ann Story is not from her but about her. During hurricane Hugo, Anne's family was concerned about her staying in her little house in Charleston. If the worst happened, what would she do for meals? Not to worry, she assured them: I have my chafing dish.
To her family, our hearts are with you at this time, but life won't be as smooth for any of us without the Ann stories.

Aunt Ann lived a long life and was a good mother to all her children. She had a lot of responsibility due to the fact she was a young widow when Uncle Red died so suddenly.
